The Yelp reviews on this place don't lie as an average 4.5 star rating strongly holds true. This takes me on a trip to the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento where I finally had to try out "Fortune Chinese Food". This place is plain legit good and knows how to dish out some amazing Chinese food. Located directly on 12th Ave. and in between the 99 freeway and Franklin Blvd., this place has been feeding thousands of customers dating back to 2016.
Keep in mind, (as of December 2021) this place is take-out/to-go ONLY. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many restaurants had to adjust their dine-in restrictions and with this place already being very small as is, it makes total sense. But don't let that stop you from ordering here because the amount of food they give you here in no joke. I arrived during the afternoon of Saturday 12/18/2021 @ 3:45pm and knew exactly what I wanted.
I went with two (2) their "Dinner Combo" (priced at a very reasonable $12.50 + tax); one with Orange Chicken and the other with Beef Broccoli. The sides included with the main entrees are a very generous portion of Chow Mein, Chicken Fried Rice, Egg Roll, Crab Cheese Wonton, sweet & sour sauce, and a few packets of soy sauce. After I placed my order, it took them less than 15 minutes until it was handed me. I have to admit, both of these entrees weighed about 2 lbs. (32 oz.) each!
After I made the trek home, I was absolutely wowed by how much food they give you here. It was absolutely over-the-top to a whole other level. The Chow Mein itself had the thicker noodles but were a bit on the salty side. The chicken fried rice was moist and actually had large chunks of chicken in it but also quite salty. The beef broccoli was delicious though as the beef was seasoned to perfection while the sauce hit the spot with crunchy stalks of broccoli. I also liked the Orange Chicken but it had too much sweetness for my liking. The egg roll was crispy and just average to me. Finally, the crab cheese wonton was good but too burnt and not enough filling inside.
With that said and done, your money goes a very long way at "Fortune Chinese Food". Being able to enjoy leftovers that carry you a few days after visiting the restaurant is always a good thing. Keep in mind that if you want to take advantage of the Lunch Combo (for $10), that is from 11am-3pm while the Dinner Combo (for $12.50) is from 3-9pm. They are closed on Mondays. Overall, the food here is above average, my only dilemma is the amount of MSG in this but it is Chinese comfort food at its finest. My rating for Fortune Chinese...
Read moreThe best Chinese American food in California. We have traveled throughout California trying different food, however Chinese food seems to lack in the state. We hadn't given up though when we tried Fortune Chinese. I was so excited when I tried their food because of how flavorful and fresh their food was. Our first time ordering I stuffed my face and didn't even take the time to take pictures to write a review on it. I insisted that we come here again to take pictures of our food to review online. Our second time ordering and the food was just as fresh as the first time ordering.
Their fried shrimp and fried chicken are perfectly battered and crispy. They aren't like a lot of Chinese restaurants that are more batter than meat. Their lunch and dinner plates are the perfect choice because you get to have fried rice, udon noodles, an egg roll and a wonton with your entrée. You get large portions for what you pay for. Every time we order we have gotten a free add on which is always a pleasant bonus. Definitely will come here again!!
I do with they offered delivery, however you can call ahead to place an order...
Read moreI've gotten the Mongolian chicken dinner combo. It was super fresh and hot when I got it. Portion size is phenomenal! You can pretty much eat half during the day and save the other half for dinner. It'll last you the whole day. As for the taste the Mongolian chicken tasted good it had spice in it but it's not that spicy at all if I were to rate that I'd probably say a 8/10 but as for the chow mein it was pretty good and had flavor too. The fried rice wasn't that bad but if I were to choose one or the other it might have to be the chow mein. As for the fried cheese wonton I really like eating that first, it also has a good crunch to it. The eggroll is probably the least thing I like out of everything else. If I were to rate the whole dinner combo I'd say 9/10 just because taste was there and portion size was amazing for the fried rice and chow mein. Oh and it looks like you can only get it to go since covid is still going on. They didn't take no longer than 10 -15 minutes to...
