Lucky Jade — Restaurant in Sacramento

This was my first time here and I ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Mushroom Chicken, Sesame Chicken, and Fried Calamari.

I walked in and the place seemed nice. Not high end and not dumpy, but in the middle comfy. However, none of the staff greeted me or asked me to wait or told me they'd be with me, and several were walking back and forth near the register. There was one person being helped, but it looked like there were two registers and the guy wasn't even buying anything, just planning a future event and getting a menu it seemed.

We got the food home and it looked promising.

The Sesame Chicken and Fried Calamari was really salty. I've eaten at probably 8+ different chinese places over the years, always ordered Sesame Chicken, and never had it overly salty, so this was a first.

The Fried Calamari was twice as much breading as calamari, which was a but of a bummer.

Kung Pao Chicken has also been a favorite of mine for 20+ years and is one that I get at nearly every restaurant I go to, and they've all been varieties of each other.

This one just tasted like chicken with salt and pepper. None of that signature kung pao flavor.

The Mushroom Chicken did taste good though and had lots of chicken and mushrooms.

If I could give it 2.5 stars I would, but I probably won't...

The dishes that we ordered were exceedingly mediocre. We were there at the same time as the wedding banquet which is odd because the review from the wedding banquet stated the food was extraordinary.

Unfortunately that was not the case for us. All the food we got was very bland, seasoning was watery, and the meats were overcooked. It could have used way more oyster sauce and salt in the seasoning.

Fish was tough and chewy, shrimp was a bit on the firm side and not really 'honey walnut', the fish and tofu dishes were bland and watery, veggies were either too soft or cooked unevenly, and the ribs were way overcooked and very salty.

Not sure if it was because staff was stretched thin due to the two events happening at the same time but this is the second time I've been here and the food was about the same.

Definitely could have been a fluke twice in a row but I don't recommend here if you want consistent Chinese food. Check out Far East Cafe or T Kee instead.

20May2024 edit: Was here recently again thinking that perhaps the first couple times were a fluke. But three times in a row with different dishes is enough of a sample size, I'd say. The same problems were present across all three times. Food was bland and the meats and veggies tended towards...

The food is usually good. I ordered later in the evening one time and did not get what I ordered. Instead of tofu I got chicken. And I got no rice with my combo plates. With warning or an explanation at time of pick up it would have been understandable. Nothing was said. I gave it one more try. This time the food was correct. Although both times I have ordered I have specified that chop sticks,napkins, soy sauce and fortune cookies need to be with the food. Normal items when having Chinese food I thought? Both times , we got none. Having good food is one thing. Having good food, making sure the order is correct and checking the tickets to ensure proper customer service has been met are key elements to satisfied customers. Thanks lucky Jade.
