Taqueria Maya's — Restaurant in Sacramento

This review is more of a 3.5 than a 3, but sadly I can't show this on here.

I decided to stop by for dinner as I was nearby and had a serious craving for a burrito. The reviews and photos looked awesome and convincing so I was looking forward to trying Taqueria Maya for the first time.

Pros: -good menu with items I don't typically see like huaraches or cactus juice -friendly and fast service -they take both card and cash -large space so good for larger groups -tasty chips and salsa bar! -huge portions and good prices

Con: I ordered a burrito and while it was huge I was disappointed for about half of it. Mainly because it was just salsa. Pico de gallo I don't mind, but they had combined it with something else that made it really saucy and had a tang to it which I didn't particularly like. I plowed on thinking they had to have put rice and beans and meat at some point. Sadly, I had to sort of empty out the salsa to get to any rice or meat. I didn't really see much in the way of beans either so I was picking through and mixing things up to get everything combined as best as I could. On the plus side the rice and the beans I did eat were really tasty! I just wish it had been better distributed as a whole.

It was also cold, but that is probably related to all of the salsa that was in the burrito.

Will this deter me from coming here? Not really. I found I have to try a few things to see if a place and I mesh so I plan on trying their menu again.

Alright...so, I was supposed to re-try a place I reviewed a couple of weeks ago...buuuuut I had a friendly nudge to give this place a shot. Woot! I'm glad I went with it!

Everyone I delt with was extremely friendly! (In English and in Spanish) I like to let the 'order taker' pick food for me and I like to let them make the food how 'they' like it. (It never disappoints!)

We had most of the taco varieties...pig, cow, chicken, nose to tail style, if you know what I mean. Fantastic review from my friend that hasn't tried some of 'that' type of meat! (High fives for trying it) I loved it too!

We had the chilaquiles ( 'Cause, for some reason I'm the only person on yelp that orders them (y'all need to order chilaquiles!) And yelp needs more pics of Chilaquiles!!!)

I told 'em to make 'em how they like them...which was scrambled eggs with red sauce and fantastic! I could see them being great with an over medium fried egg too, maybe a bias of mine is showing there a bit, but the 'chips' had a great 'bite' to them - even in the scramble.

Came right here on Easter Sunday with a party lf 5. Ive been browsing Sacramento for some leading notch pozole after moving below from LA where the pozole from south central was memorable. Mayas didnt dissapoint! I would certainly provide their pozole a 4/5! It has plenty of taste and not watery or boring like various other areas. Had a great quantity of meat however a little also much hominy to my taste. I wish theh gave even more of the garnishes (onions as well as cilantro) and also chopped/diced jalapenos/chiles because I like it spicy. The meat dropped efficiently off the bone and it was so goooood. I would definitely come back here for their pozole as well as to try various other food! The michelada was likewise worth it! they are huge as well as if you like a solid tomatoey and sour-y beverage most definitely attempt it out!
