Going to village donuts gives me a real feeling of being in my old neighborhood. If you go there and see some people there one day, chances are you will see them again. Many of the customers know each other and sit and talk in little groups.
I like to come to village donuts almost every day for coffee. It is really non-corporate atmosphere. A large coffee is $2.50.p
The main batista is named Barb. She provides Great service and knows all her regular customers by name. She provides not only coffee and donuts but also sage advice. She does a great job keeping the place clean, and you will often see her mopping or sweeping the floors. The place is always very clean when she is working. She works mostly afternoons and weekends.
The place is run by an old asian couple (they came from laos to be exact). It is a true "mom and pop shop". Technically it is a "grand mom" and "grand pop" shop, since the proprietors are actually grand parents. Mr Lee, the world class master Baker, comes in every at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning and starts cooking the donuts. He gives his donuts the taste of old world craftsmanship.
Classic car owners frequent the shop and seeing these vehicles is always a special treat. They especially like to gather on Friday mornings. I love the classic architecture of the whole shopping center. It was built in 1948 and the ceiling has really heavy exposed...
Read moreEach time I come here around 7am he is never ready all of the donuts are yesterday items with fresh ones later. Even when the fresh ones are out they are extremely undercooked and doughy you can drink them more then eat them. I am also sick of he's attitude if you are a regular you get he's nice side. Today I thought I give this moron one more chance he was actually serving fresh donuts this early. There was one lady ahead of me with her son and he keeps bringing the fresh donuts trays ignoring her or if he did say something it was low tone. Around 4 minutes pass another customer a guy shows up. Still waiting he brings the last tray and instead of taking the lady's order he serves a coffee to the guy behind me and I had it so I left. I'm sorry to anyone that does love this shop but I'm tired of being ignored and served day old donuts for the upteenth time. P.s clean your damn store the cobwebs have brown dirt on them and you need to wash your hands after a transaction before going back to your over rated...
Read moreI guess some people in the reviews here have a problem with their donuts being homemade instead of manufactured and flawless or something, because honestly? I think the fact that these donuts are hefty, juicy, sometimes crispy on the edges, sometimes with fresh, warm frosting still drying, etc. is a strongpoint of Village Express rather than a flaw. The staff are always kind and accommodating, and they give you a lot of substance for a low price– donuts here are big, and they never skimp on frosting, jam, cream, or what have you. They’re open much later than most donut shops too, which is great for people who love donuts and hate mornings. It’s a wonderful little shop, much better than somewhere corporate; just don’t eat more sugar than...
