After the final leg of the Rips Rally Run ended in St George, Ed the Aventador suggested Peppers, which he described as an Americanized version of a Mexican restaurant. My expectations weren't high as I've been to a place like that in Cottonwood Heights and it was very, very bad. Chips were brought out fairly quick and we chose a mild and a medium salsa. I asked for horchata and was told they don't have that -- my low expectations got even lower sigh After my water was poured, the waitress didn't return til about 8-10mins later -- not a good sign. However, it gave us plenty of time to devour the warm, crispy af chips and try to figure out which salsa was the hottest -- neither, as the darker salsa (medium hot, I think?) seemed as mild as the brighter red salsa (no heat, I think?). Didn't matter cuz both had a delishish tomato flavor with some citrus hints. After the waitress finally returned (Kelsey BTW), she promptly took my order of the Carne asada and shrimp Fajitas. Ed the Aventador had Carne asada street tacos and my Unk Caleb had a smothered burrito. 15 minutes later and one bowl of chips later, our meals arrived. My food was on two large plates -- one for refried beans, rice and lettuce, tomato and sour cream and one for the heap of Fajitas in a sizzling iron pan even! The meats looked evenly grilled, the onions and sweet yellow and red peppers looked firm still (def a good sign) and I could see pineapples! The first bite burned my mouth a lil (sizzling plate still sizzling) but after a quick drink of water, I was able to cautiously dig in. This heap of Fajitas was absolutely freekn delishish! The tangy pineapple was evident throughout each bite, the meat was savory and the veggies mixed well with the rest of the flavors. The most amazing thing about this dish though was that the entire meal stayed warm for the entire time that I enjoyed it. I think I burned myself once more as I was finishing the plate! Unfortunatwly, my Keto diet doesn't allow for rice and beans so I don't have an opinion on those, but Ed and Unk ate all of theirs. Kelsey seemed more attentive and flashed a great smile upon my declaration of a delishish meal. My homey Ed and my Unk were pleased with their meals so I was delighted to buy my Crüe their lunch. This place is awesome, even if they don't have horchata! Next time I'm in St Jeezy, I'ma definitely take the wifey...
Read moreHad a very weird experience on Monday night. Came into dinner with my boyfriend for a date night and decided to sit in the main dining room instead of the bar. There was a couple families with children and it wasn’t too bad and we were greeted by a sweet young server who couldn’t take our alcohol order as she wasn’t quite 21 yet. That’s is totally understandable under Utah Law. She assured us that the manager would come over to take our drink order and she would be back with water. My boyfriend and I continued to look at our menus and were surprised when a women with a child in hand maybe 2-3 years old (super cute kid) but she introduced herself as the manager and wanted to take our drink order with her small assistant. I was shocked and felt like that was a very inappropriate thing for a server to do let alone a manager running a restaurant. My boyfriend and I decided to go sit at the bar which is an awesome option to have if you want a more adult appropriate space. I let the host know we were moving tables and the bar tender as soon as we entered the bar area. He was extremely nice and understood why we wanted to move. What I didn’t expect was to wait 10-15 minutes in between interactions with our server. It was slow when we walked in and our drinks came that we had previously ordered and after 20 minutes we were ready to order and he said he would be back in one minute. One minute turned into 15 and we finished our drinks as my boyfriend and I watched the bartender pour beer, & 2 shots for 2 gentlemen that walked outside to smoke & we’re not currently even sitting down. I put cash on the table and we walked out. I don’t know if we were treated the way we were because we changed seatings even though the previous arrangement was inappropriate. Either way it was unprofessional & my boyfriend and I both work in restaurants/service industry. Total time spent from arriving to leaving was 42 minutes. I loved the times I’ve been there in the past and was very hungry. Left hungry,...
Read moreIf you crave Mexican fare, Pepper's Cantina is a must visit. Located on the corner of a strip mall hard by an Interstate 15 exit, on entering you are met by four benches for while awaiting table, although on a Sunday Utah mid afternoon immediate seating was available. Large high back wooden booths line the perimeter walls of two deep dining rooms. Centrally, wood top tables abound, a lengthy bar, and an amazingly polymorphic booth to seat a large party, the table was split for tending by wait staff or allowing diners to use facilities without requiring evacuating all seated. TVs are discreetly distributed for patrons viewing sporting events. Parking was more than adequate. Chiefly of note was the quantity of items on the nondescript menus. As we had yet a long drive through a twisty yet scenic gorge ahead into a setting sun, so sampling of cocktails was inadvisable. Who would be the designated driver was robustly argued during the next sojourn to permit a mojita, margarita or Pina colada to be enjoyed. Gratis fresh tortilla chips were dipped into sampled medium and spicy salsa. Perfectly prepared chicken taquito rolls were our choice of appetizer. Entrees ordered were accompanied with spiced rice, beans, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and dollops of sour cream. With choice of chicken, beef, steak or pork we both opted for pork carnitas topped with green sauce, mine over Sopes and hers over chili rellenos. We finished with a softball sized fried ice cream drizzled with chocolate, caramel, peaked with whipped cream and topped with a cherry. These desserts elsewhere arrive runny or soupy, but here starting with a deep frozen ball each spoonful yielded a frozen treat. Can't wait to try this during summer when it's 120° in the shade. From our limited choices and scarce appetite we expect to be completely pleased when we shall return. ...
