Discovering this Jamaican restaurant was a delightful surprise, thanks to my involvement in photography. As a freelance photographer that is working with DoorDash, I had the opportunity to capture their enticing dishes for their online menu. I visited the restaurant twice, initially coinciding with another photoshoot nearby. After completing my work, I stopped by to arrange the restaurant's photo session. During this visit, I decided to indulge in their "Three Meat Plater," which included two sides and a refreshing can of soda, all for an affordable price under $15. The assortment of meats I savored comprised chicken curry, jerk chicken, and BBQ chicken. Each meat was expertly cooked to perfection, boasting a juicy and tender texture infused with an explosion of flavors. The cook demonstrated a bold hand with seasoning, which significantly enhanced the authenticity of the dish. The sides, including the rice and baked beans, were equally impressive, maintaining the same level of quality and taste. On the day of the photoshoot, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Rueben, who personally ensured that everything was up to standard. Upon completing my work, Rueben insisted on treating me to lunch as a token of appreciation. When asked about my preference, I expressed my willingness to explore new flavors and simply requested, "Surprise me." To my delight, I was presented with the delectable curry Goat and Oxtail. The meat was incredibly tender, devoid of any gaminess, and effortlessly fell apart without the need for a knife. It could be easily shredded or picked with a fork. The flavors were spot-on, leaving me craving seconds in the near future. The same level of excellence extended to the oxtail, which was fall-off-the-bone tender, bursting with robust flavors, and made even more divine by the succulent fat. Accompanied by rice and cabbage as sides, the entire meal maintained its consistency of excellence. Overall, I highly recommend this Jamaican restaurant for its consistently delicious offerings. However, it's worth noting that the establishment primarily caters to takeout and delivery, with limited seating options indoors and a few tables available outside.

What a nice Jamaican experience. Definite Island vibes. Most of the food is served Cafeteria-Style. Meaning you choose from the food displayed. You can purchase cooked-to-order selections if you desire. We ordered oxtails, rib tips, and jerk chicken with cabbage, Mac & cheese, and sweet potatoes. Also a beef patty. The chicken was so good. 🔥 Not very spicy but definitely seasoned. Served on top of rice and peas. I recommend getting a side of jerk sauce to dip your food in. First time having oxtails and they were very gelatinous and meaty. Very savory and was definitely on the soul food side of the menu even though they were served on top of rice and peas. Overall they were ok. Some tender some tough. The rib tips were great. BBQ sauce they use is blended with jerk to offer a good balance of flavors. Sides were rice & peas, mac & cheese, cabbage, and sweet potatoes. All were amazing. Best of the day was the cheesy mac and cheese. Overall great place to try a great take on Jamaican and soul food mixed together. Next time I will try cooked to order items. Couple items unavailable. And we got there around 1230p. 3.5 out of 5 stars

Googled “Ox tails near me” and this place came up… Exterior was cool, parking lot was rather small… Upon walking in there was no greeting at all, strike 1. It was very small inside but had about 7 stools for dining in if you wanted to I guess… Waited a few mins to place our order, again never greeted just a next was said, assuming that was us. We ordered 1 ox tail plate (came with 3 sides, we ordered greens & cabbage, candied yams, and Jamaican rice & peas) to share because the reviews weren’t that promising, AND the reviews DID NOT LIE. Them ox tails were so small and idk what was wrong with the man that made the plate, his attitude was off so I’m guessing that’s why those little bitty oxtails ended up on the plate. Spending a total of $25.10 (added a Jamaican lemonade, taste just like country time x2). The service plus the size of the plate (he knew we were sharing I asked for 2 forks) just wasn’t worth it. We did eat it though no lie it was good, just a little heavy handed with the salt. 3 out of 5 for me.

My first time going to the restaurant, however, I have patroned his food truck located on N. Kingshighway, therefore, I can honestly speak from experience that the quality is very different. I actually prefer the Kingshighway location over the restaurant. Although, I was very excited to finally have a chance to eat at his restaurant, I found the food to be a little disappointing. The flavor was good if you are okay with sucking sauce from rib tip bones. The rib tips had little or no meat on them and the red beans and rice was kind of dry. However, the greens were decent considering they had no meat in them that I could see. Lastly, not only was the food pricey considering what I ordered, they did not put my desert in my bag, which I didn't realize until I got home. I, of course, called them to let them know, and spoke with Sean, who sounded really young. He claimed that I could come back next weekend, which is the earliest I can get over that way, and they would honor a store credit for another desert. I guess that's fine, but I got to see it to believe it. So not only am I out of $13 for meatless rib tips and dry rice, I didn't get my desert. Just really disappointed. BTW...there was no bread in my order...how do you serve barbeque with no bread...and when I asked young Sean about that his response was that they normally serve a slice of cornbread but they were out and if I wanted bread I could have requested it. I guess I would have done that IF I would...

I went there for the 1st time a week ago and I must unfortunately say the over all experience was not pleasant. To begin, the server/cashier/and possibly one of the cooks was not friendly, appeared disheveled and honestly like one who was coming off of a high and in need of a fix. She was slow and seemed disoriented at times and frustrated. Now in her defense it could partially be because she was the only one in the place working. A gentlemen who I assumed was the owner, peeped in the door, saw she was in need of help but didn't bother to step in. There was a minimum of 7 people in the place and I along with my friend were guest number 3 and 4. I would say we waited about 15 minutes to be served and it was not worth the wait, as the food was subpar at best. I know these are strange times and finding help, in general can be very challenging. However this was ridiculous especially since the food was already made and it was just a matter of putting it in containers, cashing one out and moving on. Mr "Mi Hungry" I would highly encourage you sir, to please try and do better and get you some more help, preferably one who can stay coherent while serving, and with good customer...
