Discovering this Jamaican restaurant was a delightful surprise, thanks to my involvement in photography. As a freelance photographer that is working with DoorDash, I had the opportunity to capture their enticing dishes for their online menu. I visited the restaurant twice, initially coinciding with another photoshoot nearby. After completing my work, I stopped by to arrange the restaurant's photo session. During this visit, I decided to indulge in their "Three Meat Plater," which included two sides and a refreshing can of soda, all for an affordable price under $15.
The assortment of meats I savored comprised chicken curry, jerk chicken, and BBQ chicken. Each meat was expertly cooked to perfection, boasting a juicy and tender texture infused with an explosion of flavors. The cook demonstrated a bold hand with seasoning, which significantly enhanced the authenticity of the dish. The sides, including the rice and baked beans, were equally impressive, maintaining the same level of quality and taste.
On the day of the photoshoot, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Rueben, who personally ensured that everything was up to standard. Upon completing my work, Rueben insisted on treating me to lunch as a token of appreciation. When asked about my preference, I expressed my willingness to explore new flavors and simply requested, "Surprise me." To my delight, I was presented with the delectable curry Goat and Oxtail. The meat was incredibly tender, devoid of any gaminess, and effortlessly fell apart without the need for a knife. It could be easily shredded or picked with a fork. The flavors were spot-on, leaving me craving seconds in the near future. The same level of excellence extended to the oxtail, which was fall-off-the-bone tender, bursting with robust flavors, and made even more divine by the succulent fat. Accompanied by rice and cabbage as sides, the entire meal maintained its consistency of excellence.
Overall, I highly recommend this Jamaican restaurant for its consistently delicious offerings. However, it's worth noting that the establishment primarily caters to takeout and delivery, with limited seating options indoors and a few tables...
Read moreMy first time going to the restaurant, however, I have patroned his food truck located on N. Kingshighway, therefore, I can honestly speak from experience that the quality is very different. I actually prefer the Kingshighway location over the restaurant. Although, I was very excited to finally have a chance to eat at his restaurant, I found the food to be a little disappointing. The flavor was good if you are okay with sucking sauce from rib tip bones. The rib tips had little or no meat on them and the red beans and rice was kind of dry. However, the greens were decent considering they had no meat in them that I could see. Lastly, not only was the food pricey considering what I ordered, they did not put my desert in my bag, which I didn't realize until I got home. I, of course, called them to let them know, and spoke with Sean, who sounded really young. He claimed that I could come back next weekend, which is the earliest I can get over that way, and they would honor a store credit for another desert. I guess that's fine, but I got to see it to believe it. So not only am I out of $13 for meatless rib tips and dry rice, I didn't get my desert. Just really disappointed. BTW...there was no bread in my order...how do you serve barbeque with no bread...and when I asked young Sean about that his response was that they normally serve a slice of cornbread but they were out and if I wanted bread I could have requested it. I guess I would have done that IF I would...
Read moreI went there for the 1st time a week ago and I must unfortunately say the over all experience was not pleasant. To begin, the server/cashier/and possibly one of the cooks was not friendly, appeared disheveled and honestly like one who was coming off of a high and in need of a fix. She was slow and seemed disoriented at times and frustrated. Now in her defense it could partially be because she was the only one in the place working. A gentlemen who I assumed was the owner, peeped in the door, saw she was in need of help but didn't bother to step in. There was a minimum of 7 people in the place and I along with my friend were guest number 3 and 4. I would say we waited about 15 minutes to be served and it was not worth the wait, as the food was subpar at best. I know these are strange times and finding help, in general can be very challenging. However this was ridiculous especially since the food was already made and it was just a matter of putting it in containers, cashing one out and moving on. Mr "Mi Hungry" I would highly encourage you sir, to please try and do better and get you some more help, preferably one who can stay coherent while serving, and with good customer...
