This was possibly the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. My family and I had eaten at a different location and thought that since this was closer to home we would give it a go. Note every experience we had at the Tonka Bay location was spectacular. My mom, fiance, and I showed up and we were immediately greeted at our table by a waiter asking if we wanted any drinks, off the bat great service! Ordered a couple drinks from the bar, an appetizer, then food. Everything was good until the food showed up. I ordered a burger no problem, my fiance the Mac and cheese no problem, my mom on the other hand ordered a healthy bowl... problem. To start she ordered the dish with rice instead instead of the original quinoa that would have made her sick, the dish came with quinoa. Not a huge deal I took the quinoa and the waiter brought her rice, not bad but the bigger problem started after she took her first few bites. I had to stop her mid bite to pull a HAIR from her dish. We called the waiter over he apologized and took the food back. The GM came back with a new plate this time the order was correct but there was another HAIR in this dish, to top it off it was a different color than the last hair. The waiter came back again to take the dish mumbling what sounded like sorry, couldn't really tell. The female manager came over to ask if she wanted anything different from the menu, good way to approach it. Unfortunately my mom disgusted at this point didn't want to order another dish, she sent it back and sat there with a cold bowl of brown rice in front of her with no silverware as the waiter had taken it with him. So I walked up to the kitchen staff to ask for another fork so that she could at least eat the rice, well third times the charm because the napkin that they wrapped the fork in had yet another HAIR in it. Again a different color than the first two. After informing our waiter about the third hair he told us be was going to speak to the managers again, and when we walked up to talk to them they had no idea we found a tthird HAIR. Bottom line is if you enjoy extra protein in your food (3 hairs) and management that seemed like they have no idea what they're doing and are willing to spend $115 on a meal, than this is the place for you... and not me. Im going to continue going to the Tonka Bay location, but I will never step foot in this...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to go to Hazelwood Cafe for a girls' night out last night, during the snow storm. We had a reservation for 8:45 and arrived around 8:30. This was my first time, so I was very excited to try this place because my friend who had recommended it had been here before and raved about it. Unfortunately, we did not have a positive experience. Our waiter was unfriendly and had an attitude the entire night. When we arrived, we asked for recommendations and a few questions about the drink options, and he was very serious and only looked at us when we asked for drink recommendations. He basically said that they all have alcohol, so what's the difference? I could understand if we were being rude, but I believe we were all being polite and asking questions, and we would expect our waiter to be friendly. I've gone to a lot of places and asked for drink recommendations, and they always give me options. This waiter just stared at us; he said nothing, and his vibe was off the entire night. My friend ordered a Mac and Cheese dish, and she asked him if he could switch the meat because she'd done it before here, and he was like "no, I don't know how to do that," and my friend asked if he could ask someone, and he was like no. It was simply impolite and unfriendly. My sister then ordered a drink that was far too sweet, so we asked him if we could change it, and he didn't say anything; he just grabbed it, returned it, and brought the same one because it tasted the same. We were uneasy there, and we expected friendly service. I've worked in restaurants and fast food restaurants, and I know that having a positive attitude is always something you should do when working and serving customers. I'm not sure if he was having a bad day or what, but we had the impression that we weren't really wanted. I'm afraid I won't be returning; I...
Read moreThree of us stopped by for dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 14th., and wow - it was busy! That's a good thing, but we worried about getting seated without a reservation. The restaurant was able to accommodate us immediately.
The SLP location is on the ground floor of a bank/office building. The main parking is behind the building in an underground garage. The west side has an outdoor patio (not covered), but they do offer umbrellas.
We were seated inside, and our server came quickly. We ordered the French onion soup, artichoke dip, chicken pot pie, shrimp deviled eggs, and a salad. All were wonderful, and the pot pie presentation was beautiful! The French onion was phenomenal - the price was extremely reasonable (if not low, a sure deal!). As for service, one of my friends dropped her water glass during the meal. Within seconds, two servers appeared with towels - they appeared out of nowhere. Great service.
My only complaint, which was rectified halfway through the meal (others must have said something), was that the restaurant was freezing. I had a sweater on, and it was still cold. My friend had on a fleece, and she was cold. Other people were visibly cold - rubbing their arms and sitting close together. I know better, growing up in MN, than to NOT bring a sweater into a restaurant, but it was still cold. Even with the size of the crowd, the thermostat was just set too cold. We considered leaving at one point. In fact, after being seated for a bit, I got up to peek at the seating on the patio. Had it not been looking cloudy/rainy, we would have asked to move outside. It was miserable for about 15 minutes.
Arctic temps aside, the food was great. I can't wait to go back. It's definitely worth another visit. Just bring a...
