Cute, old-fashioned looking ice cream parlor. We didn't eat but we all had ice cream and it was delicious. There are TONS of flavors so check the tags on the glass, the list on the far right, and the large sign hanging near the register as they have different flavors listed. You get an extra scoop but luckily their signs show how many scoops you actually get (a small is 2 scoops for $4.75, medium is 3 scoops for $6, large is 4 scoops, etc.). I use the term "scoop" loosely as it was a huge amount and not traditional scoop. I saw a couple kids with tiny cones and a tiny scoop of ice cream that is perfect for kids (and I wish a had known about it before ordering a "small" for our child because it was more like a pint! Fun, nostalgic atmosphere. Very large servings. Great value. Pleasant, friendly staff. They had a steady stream off customers getting ice cream, hot dogs, pizzas, etc. the entire time we were there (which was over an hour while we were eating all that ice cream) and it wasn't even a hot summer day. Dar's Double Scoop shares restrooms with Hunter's Boys restaurant next door, which was closed or out of business but you could still access the bathrooms. Free on-street parking I front and next to building. May have a small lot in back.So glad we found it on a Google search after the place we planned to go to was closed on Sundays. We will...

This place was disappointing. We were not greeted when we entered. When we got to the counter a guy looked at us while we were trying to figure out what we wanted. He didn't say hi or make any interaction aside from opening the freezer. I quickly just decided to get the brownie sundae. The cashier asked if that was it. I said we've never been there before so we just need a moment. She awkwardly stared at me. I ordered to hot dogs with kids and they were well... hot dogs, so nor much to say on that. The man who served us sat right in front of the drink cooler to watch tv which made it weird to grab our water without feeling we were disturbing him. I noticed several other people who came in were not really greeted either except one girl who came in and must have known them because the man finally greeted a customer and even told her to have a good day. The Sundae was good, but I'm not sure...

TL;DR: Cute place; good ice cream; wear your masks.

Dar's is a cute locally owned place with interesting and tasty ice cream flavor choices. If we were not in a pandemic, I would give Dar's Double Scoop five stars - but the place has a sign posted that says "masks required," and neither of the people working wore a mask. Why have the sign? Just wear a mask. It is not difficult, demonstrates a concern for the wellbeing of people around you, and is just wise. In November of 2021, in addition to this being about established science, it has become a mark of politeness or lack thereof.

Do you want to give people who enter your business wearing masks in a pandemic the impression that they care more about your safety than you do theirs? If you do, then you are doing it correctly. Otherwise, read your own sign and act...

Donning a massive ice cream cone and hotdog in tennis shoes outside the store front, this is place is not to be missed. Along with the funky, retro decor and bazillion flavors of hard (by that I mean "not soft-serve") ice cream, this place is worth a visit. I walked there specifically for the ice cream and was thrilled by all the options--fun flavors that you won't find elsewhere. (Why even shop at places where your choice is limited to either chocolate or vanilla?) The space and atmosphere is family friendly; a big table full of happy kids contentedly spooned down dishes of ice cream while I waited in line. I was too busy eating my ice cream to grab a pic of it... Mybad. I would like to try the pizza next time.

Dar’s Double Scoop has a rich history in St. Paul and the quality has remained consistent. I usually stop in for some quarts of ice cream to take home. Cake and Ice Cream is one of my favorites with chunks of yellow birthday cake making it delicious. I also go for cookie dough, cotton candy, cookies and cream, pecan, and monster cookie. All delicious flavors regardless of taking it in a to go quart, on a waffle cone, or in a shake. Cheese curds, wings, and mini donuts are also amazing! The customer service is solid and the decor inside is fun. Dar’s is one of the best local ice cream shops in the Twin Cities!
