So first off I like to disclose that I'm Indian, probably have guessed that from my last name. A few friends of ours have said that this restaurant is good (non Indian). My family hasn't tried it as we leave near downtown Saint Petersburg and this is further out to us than other Indian restaurants. Our go to Indian restaurant in Saint Petersburg closed so we needed to find another one close by, Cafe Masala was the closest now. We ordered food today from them. We went to the restaurant to place a to go order as we were coming home from Tampa. The gentleman that took our order was the owner. We gave specific instructions that we would like no greens, such as cilantro sprinkled on top of our food. Keep in mind the owner himself is writing this down on the order note. We ordered butter chicken and lamb vindaloo (minus potatoes). We waited about 20 mins for our food to be ready and then we took it home. Surprisingly both dishes had cilantro in it! Furthermore the butter chicken was too salty and the lamb vindaloo was very watery. We called and talked to the owner about our dissatisfaction. He never addressed that they made a mistake by adding cilantro to both dishes but insisted that the lamb vindaloo was watery cause I told him no potatoes. However I explained to him that this is how I always order it from all restaurants and it has never been like this, not only in the USA but the UK too. He went on to insult me by saying something is wrong with my palate! Also stating this why I don't want "Indians" coming to my restaurant. He was bragging he has been in business since 1993 etc. He might be very confident in the food he serves, which is not traditional style, but he lacks in customer service for sure. We spent $60! on food that is not edible! There are other reviews that will support the food is watered down, so we are not the only ones. However by him insulting us is totally unprofessional. This review is not where this will end as the insults are of such that something else needs to be done. However that will be handled accordingly but stay away from this restaurant......do yourself a favor and go to Deck and Spice, next closest Indian restaurant....BTW I don't write many reviews, you can check. The other reviews written by me is for a USA and UK company. So I have must have been extremely dissatisfied with the food and attitude of the owner to write this....surprisingly he is fooling people and has expressed he doesn't want ones that know how Indian food should be made coming to his restaurant, very ironic!
