El Tenampa Mexican-American Restaurant — Restaurant in Saint Petersburg

This is literally one of the worst Mexican places I've ever been to in my life. I've lived in Mexico, I've lived in Arizona. I mean, I've eaten a LOT of Mexican food in a LOT of different locations. To start with, the menu is ridiculous. Tacos al carbon, which basically means grilled tacos. Flour tortillas, and they only offer ground beef or chicken. So, you... Grill your ground beef? Literally the worst Mexican menu I've ever seen anywhere. I ordered a pork chimichanga. No seasoning whatsoever inside the chimi, just stuffed with slimy pork, and when I say pork, I don't believe this was all even pork, more like scraps of something from a pig. Weird slimy pieces of gristle that looked like it was made from some kind of organ. Absolutely disgusting. I couldn't even eat it. Everything was terrible. I would never come here again. Disgraceful. My friend and I stopped here after working hard outside painting my house. We were excited to try it as they are in our neighborhood. I was so hungry I would have eaten anything they put in front of me. Well, almost anything.

I have never, in 35 years of being alive walked away from food. I think they heated up whatever was leftover from the night/week before and thought “this’ll do”. It was from a can, microwaved, stale and tasteless. I got a burrito and my friend got a taco bowl or some nonsense on “special”. It was special alright.

I was embarrassed that I brought my friend and why would it make any difference to say something if they felt comfortable serving something like that in the first place. Paid and left the food on the table....

I was new to the area and NEEDING Mexican food so I dropped in here. The restaurant was almost empty and the staff was just sitting around chatting. Food was really quick- I just had a burrito. Chips were excellent! Burrito was fine but I've had really excellent Mexican food and this is not it. Service stunk. I just kept thinking while I was eating that the restaurant needed to nominate itself for Kitchen Nightmares and have Gordon Ramsey come in and overhaul everything and teach them how to run a decent restaurant.
