Brand new to St. Petersburg, still staying in a hotel, I'm forced to eat out for every meal. Tiring of the same 2 or 3 restaurants near the hotel, I got on Google Maps for some other suggestions in the area.
I came across JB's Seafood and, originally being from New England, my interest was piqued. Unfortunately they were scheduled to close in about 20 minutes and I was concerned whether I could make it there in time.
I gave them a quick call and was assured by manager Brian that I was fine, to head on over and he would take care of me. He was very warm and upbeat and even took a minute to inform me of their menu items and meal options.
Upon arrival, I was greeted like an old friend when I walked in and identified myself. Unlike a lot of businesses in working class neighborhoods, I could immediately tell that Brian valued his clientele and genuinely appreciated our patronage. He warmly greeted every person who walked through the door and knew many of their preferences without having to be told. He had also prepared a new menu item (corn and crab chowder) and distributed generous samples to everyone in the room. (It was DELICIOUS, comforting and filling, by the way!)
My favorite food on the planet is lobster, and my preparation of choice is fried, but it's incredibly rare to actually see it on most restaurant's menus, especially at an affordable price point. So imagine my surprise to find it on JB's menu, and for the reasonable price of $13.99!
Melvin threw down in the kitchen and prepared a perfectly-seasoned feast for me: a larger-than-expected fried lobster tail accompanied by 2 corn cobettes, andouille sausage and hearty potatoes. When I got it back to my room and dug in, I was surprised at how well it held up and remained crispy in the half hour or so that had elapsed since it was prepared.
I ate my fill and estimated that, with the amount of food left over, I probably had one or two more servings remaining. I plan to finish my decadent dish for both lunch and dinner today, and I'm looking forward to my next visit to JB's Seafood to try their...
Read moreYesterday 6/25 my wife and I visited JB’s heres how it went. Read before you visit. it’s a local spot and been around for a while. The young lady at the front was seemingly doing everything she was running back and fourth and to get seafood and take orders and she was extremely enthusiastic and had a great attitude which is why I stayed through this experience. The person in the back cooking the food was a grouch and a slouch. For lack of better terms the gentle man would make the young lady get soda for him and he spoke to her very rudely. He seemed extremely annoyed by her and he wore the same gloves to touch and walk around the restaurant and proceed with the food he then messed up about 3 customer orders im directly talking about the heavy set black male. However shortly after my long wait a lightskin gentleman came from the back began helping and he even accommodated my wife with extra food. I will say this as I close. Jobs seem to need a strong manger and replace the chef aswell as upgrade some of the kitchen processes to be cleaner. However the food is worth visiting and the price is great. I would recommend you get your own experience. And I wanna a huge thank you to the young girl in front for having great attitude and spirit and a huge thank you to the gentle man who came out and started fixing and helping from the back. The guy cooking however was not a great look for a place people love to see in the neighborhood. This was made to...
Read moreRidiculously delicious. We order from here on Uber Eats most times and overall the experience keeps us coming back. My one concern is the CORN, which so far always tastes overcooked. It's mushy and usually has to go in the trash.
As for the other dishes, we've tried: BOILED SNOW CRAB which is the absolute best thing on the menu, with butter, garlic and all those nice spices all over it. I'd eat it every day!
BOILED PEANUTS were available and so I picked those up too. Very yummy and the portion size was nice and big. These were NOT overcooked and still had a good texture.
BOILED BLUE CRABS were not as great, since they hadn't been cleaned out. You have to remove the body, lungs and yucky stuff before you eat it, even though it's already cooked, and the taste of the guts can linger in the meat. Portion size is good but overall i wouldn't recommend them as they are.
BOILED LOBSTER is my husband's favorite. He has said the lobster plate is delicious but not substantial enough. If you're going to get it, you'd be best off adding on some peanuts or snow crab so you won't be hungry afterward.
BOILED SHRIMP was forgettable at best, and in my opinion not large enough.
FRIED CRAB was bizarre and definitely not a good choice if your teeth are at all sensitive. It's pieces of blue crab, battered and fried. I...
