Read moreFirst time here and I would have given them 5 stars if our first experience would have been more enjoyable by being given more direction. There was a sign as you walk up the stairs that said seat yourself but when we arrived at 8:30 on a busy Saturday night, there were no available areas to sit so we walked around trying to find someone to ask if we could even order food from the bar. There was no host so we had to wait for a server and when I asked him, he said the “we should” be able to and walked away, so that didn’t make me feel too confident that standing in a long line at the bar might lead into us ordering more than just drinks since we were also hungry.
There weren’t any visible QR codes to make it easier to link to their menu as you wait in line for the bar. They were on the high top tables, but you would only know that if you were seated and there was no available seating. I found their menu online so when we finally got to the bar to order, we were able to order food and drinks.
The bartender was very quick and efficient taking our order and getting us our drinks and told me to come back to him in about 15 minutes to pick up our food. We got lucky that the big tiki bench was empty so we sat there until we saw a high top table open up. There was a guard at the top of the stairs who cleaned off the table and wiped it down for us. Just as we put our drinks on the table, the same bartender who we ordered from brought us our food and that was an unexpected surprise!
I ordered my burger rare and that’s how it was cooked which was surprising for such a busy place, let alone a bar. The bun wasn’t a typical hamburger bun, so tastier than fast food and the lettuce and onions were very fresh. The patty was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The sweet potato fries were crispy and sweet.
My girlfriend’s Mahi fish tacos had a good amount of fish and just the right amount of other ingredients and the side of seasoned rice was very flavorful.
The ambiance and location are fantastic and I would have given them 5 stars if it was easier for first time customers to figure out the process for how they can order food. It would also be nicer if there was some sort of organized process by the staff to help customers find seating instead of just letting them fend for themselves. Now that we know the process, we’ll know what to do the next time we come, but just a little bit of more direction or organization would make it a 5 star review for first...
Read moreThis place has a weird policy on seating at reservation times. We had reservations for dinner at 5PM. We showed up at 4:50 and were told they would seat us at 5. They told all others who arrived early the same thing, even though the dining room had many empty tables.
At 5, they notified the group of waiting customers they would start seating. Twenty five to thirty people queued up to check in. We were in the middle of the group and it took them over 10 minutes to get us to our table.
Then an extended wait ensued while they seated the rest of the group. The dining room was slammed and the staff had a hard time handling the crowd. It took about 10 minutes more to have a waiter come to our table to ask about beverages. It was another 10 minutes until they brought our drinks and took our orders. It took nearly 20 minutes for our food to come - this was nearly an hour from when we showed up for dinner.
And the service did not improve from then on. I had an empty water glass on the table wanting a refill for the entire time I was eating my dinner. We then sat at the table for nearly 15 minutes after we finished eating waiting for a waiter to check on us. When he finally did, he brought more water and took an order for our dessert. It was another 10 minute wait for it to come and then more waiting to ask for our check. And then more waiting for the bill to come and then more waiting for the payment card to be picked up and then more waiting for the completed bill and card to be returned.
During this entire process I observed the dining room emptying out over a period of about an hour and then nobody coming back in until about half an hour later. I suspect the policy of not seating customers until their reservation time led to this lull and subsequent crowd slam.
Another possible contributing factor is the company policy of charging a 20% "service charge" on all sales which guarantees a "tip" to all employees regardless of the quality of service provided. The wait staff doesn't need to be attentive and customer oriented to get their pay.
While the venue and ambiance of this place is very nice, we won't...
