At first glance, it might be hard to imagine that a Thai restaurant just a few doors down from a busy Publix grocery in north St. Pete might resemble a subtle, chic type of Asian bistro one might find in the hip section of South Beach in Miami. But Yummy Thai is just that. During your encounter, one is relaxingly greeted by a minimalist, tasteful décor replete with shimmery oil paintings, sepia-tone photos of Asian life and live greenery overlooking a dozen tables and comfy leather banquettes. Similarly, the menu is refined too with about two dozen specialty entrees, and just enough soups and appetizers to complement any of the reasonably priced meals. It’s almost as if it’s kept neatly concise on purpose so the staff can concentrate on fresh ingredients as their calling-card. The dishes, glasses and eating utensils are always immaculately clean. The young owners Becky and Tana are always upbeat and welcoming. And the food is always, always delicious. The sauces are always vibrant with traditional Thai spices, or ingredients like fresh mushrooms and garlands of fresh basil herbs that can be adjusted for any preferred spice level. I’ve been eating there for about three years and go in once or twice each month. My favorite: the Pad Kee Maw featuring juicy eggplant slices, glistening peppers and green beans, basil leaves and meaty thick rice noodles (which for me is a godsend since I am gluten-free). For fun, once in a while I even go to the lunch buffet so I can sample the half-dozen or so refined dishes they offer during...
Read moreI am a happy single father of three (12, 9, and 6) who entered Yummy Thai on Saturday, June 13th, 2021 around 8:15 pm with my three kiddos. We were immediately greeted with genuine kindness by Becky. I have lived in several states, including New York, Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee while enjoying restaurants in each location, but none compare to our joyful experience(s) at Yummy Thai in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Although Yummy Thai was about to close for the night at 9:00pm, my children and I were positively welcomed by Becky to dine in. Our stay was positive, encouraging, renewing, and delightful. The food was superb (Pot Sticker appetizer, Curry Fried Chicken-Combination Chicken, Pork & Beef, Pad Thai Chicken, and Bangkok Chicken as well as Thai Tea, Thai Coffee, and Lemonade. The stay was consumed with positive experiences as a result of meaningful dialogue with Becky coupled with quality mouth watering meals.
My children also loved the food plus overall family oriented experience(s), particularly my 6 year old daughter who rarely eats anything and is quiet towards others. I look forward to visiting again when back in town, especially knowing I’ll have quality food, peaceful and encouraging social interactions, and affordable prices. Yummy Thai is more than worth the stay. My family and I thank Becky and everyone at Yummy Thai for these positive...
Read moreUnfortunately it's not Yummy anymore. Ordered Pad Thai wanting to see if this is still my favorite place after the change in ownership. I really wanted it to be great still.
But this just isn't it. The noodles are overcooked and mushy. It's very sour and tastes fishy.
Also all the garnish is gone. This used to come with carrots, green onion, etc. This had like 2 green onions in it. It's a bowl full of mushy overcooked noodles and eggs with excessive sour fish sauce. Very disappointed.
My previous review was 5 stars but after the change in ownership this is just not working.
We will give it a few months to see if they can get it together. I can't imagine the challenge of trying to cook someone else's menu that has to be difficult.
I went from "I can't believe I ate that whole thing." To "I think I'll make a sandwich." It was honestly disgusting. I'm sad because this was the best Thai in St Pete and now it's inedible.
To the new owners: I'm very sorry. I hope it's just some getting started snags and I do wish you well. We will try again in...
