The physical location is a bit awkward being only really accessible from route 22 Eastbound. Additionally the parking lot configuration is bizarre with no marked parking spaces, and a sign on the door not to park at the neighboring business on certain days, but the only delineation between the two businesses was an 18 wheeler.
The place was clean inside, there were no flies, the counter is tasteful, however the general vibe wasn't really somewhere I would want to sit down to eat for pleasure.
The menu is on a large board that is fairly clear and the worker was very helpful in explaining anything that was not clear. We were the only people in the place, but he was very patient and courteous.
What was not great was that we found out when we got back home that several of our sides were not with the order. We got 3 adult meals with two sides each, one pulled chicken nachos, and a Mac and cheese which came in at just over $100. When we got home we realized that we only had 4 of the 6 sides and we did not have the Mac and cheese. I'm not sure if this was missed when ordering or if we were charged and the items were not packed, but as we are a 20 minute drive away we weren't exactly going to drive back over it regardless.
Another quirk I didn't like. I'm used to every cash register asking for $1-3 for the cashier to do their job, and it's annoying already for business to guilt their customers into providing a tip that a cashier can't possibly earn in that amount of time or the customer might appear cheap when what this really tells me is that the business doesn't want to pay their employees a proper wage, so would rather pass the buck to me. This however is something I'm used to. What I'm not used to is it suggested tips being %5, %10, %15. Is there a serious recommendation that for the fine minutes of work that was taking payment and putting food in boxes that a cashier should get a $15 top on a $100 order. Why? Are the cashiers paid exclusively in tips and few customers come through.
A good and bad thing is the portion size. The portions for the mains are giant. This is awesome, but I feel like we were a bit surprised by whole large they were and likely would have ordered differently had we realized. The portions on the side do not match though and are quite normal sized. My double rib meal was quite literally a full takeout box. My coleslaw was maybe a 1/3 of a cup? I would imagine the sides are much cheaper, so why mess it up there?
What I can say is that the food is absolutely excellent. The spice rub on the meat is very good, their barbecue sauce is very good and their spicy actually has a little kick. The coleslaw was great. Everyone loved it. We honestly were a bit upset about the sides, but we all shut up about it very quickly when we tried the meats and the only comments were how good it was.
They also have Turner's tea here...
Read moreWe have been here many times, both for eating in and for take out. The meat has always been tender and moist with a wonderful smoked flavor. BBQ sauce in your choice of mild or spicy is served on the side. You, also, have a choice of a hard or soft bun for making a sandwich with your meat. We have tried all the sides and liked everyone of them... as have friends when we have bought take out for a picnic. My favorite side is the corn bread that is sweet, moist, buttery with a crispy edge. The last time we went, I ordered a piece for with my meal and, then, my husband and I ordered another peice to take home for the next day. Cold soft drinks, tea and water are available in the cooler. When, you order a meal, your drink is included. If, you like good down home cooking, I would put the Pittsburgh BBQ Company on your 'Need to Try' list! Eat in the cute inside dining room, at the picnic table outside or take your order to go. Just try this delightful down home style food! I think you thank yourself...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went in here for lunch. We ordered bbq pulled pork sandwiches, a side of coleslaw and potato salad. The young girl behind the counter proceeded to make my sandwich. I noticed that she put a huge amount of pork on the bun! I asked her to put half of the meat on my girlfriends sandwich and I was happy with the generous amount of meat on both our sandwiches. We got two drinks, a bottle of water and a peach tea from the cooler. Our total was $22.24!!!? I figured since I had her split up the meat she'd only charge us for one sandwich plus the bun. Nope full price! I should've just gotten the original amount of meat and brought the left overs home! It was delicious but really expensive for what it was!!! I won't be back considering the other great bbq places around where we live. I feel like we got ripped off! Also, the potato salad looked good but it was really bland!! Needs more mustard, mayo and add eggs! We sampled the baked beans, I liked them but my girlfriend thought they...
