I must say, I’ve had a love-hate relationship with Annette’s Westgate Café over the last few years. After Annette, the former owner, left this restaurant, it just hasn’t been the same. The quality and service have been very inconsistent. We always end up coming back after a lengthy time away because when the food and service are good, this place is amazing. It used to be 2nd after Word-of-Mouth for my favorite breakfast/brunch restaurant. But it’s not even in my top 5 anymore. As for our experience today after months of not going here, we experienced the same issues we have in the past. With that said, the lady who took our order was extremely nice and friendly, however, she completely messed up our order. I ordered a Chicken Bacon Avocado Salad with crispy chicken instead of the grilled chicken that comes standard on it. This is a regular order for us. When we got home, we realized it was cold grilled chicken. Checked the receipt, she never put in to sub crispy chicken, despite me telling her twice. My son’s food was correct and tasted great but felt the portion was really small and could have included a slice of toast with it. He ate it in like 2 minutes. Then there was my burger 🤦🏻‍♀️ According to their online menu, all burgers come on Ciabatta bread with special sauce. I ordered a Gettin Piggy burger with no special sauce but add extra bacon aioli (which comes on it already). Well not only was there no secret sauce on it, there was not even bacon aioli on it, despite asking for extra, it was on a regular bun instead of a Ciabatta bun, there was no Canadian bacon, and no onion straws. But it wasn’t until after I checked the receipt that I noticed she ordered the wrong burger. She ordered a Do Wa Diddy burger with no sauce. And this burger is even more expensive than the one I ordered. I understand someone making a little mistake but this was way too many mistakes for one order. Her customer service skills are excellent but I’m not sure she should be taking to go orders. I wanted to give service 1 star because of how bad our order was messed up, but she was so friendly and nice, I gave it 2. The burger still tasted good despite not being at all what I ordered or wanted, but it was not worth $20. And you may wonder why I didn’t call and talk to the manager. Well, let’s just say, I’ve talked to the owner multiple times in the past about issues we had. Not only is he rude, but it’s obvious he doesn’t care about his customer’s experience. To make matters worse, he’s one of the chefs, so he never admits if he makes a mistake. However, this time was clearly the fault of the nice lady taking the order, which was obvious by the receipt. I do have to say though…Their Chicken Bacon Avocado Salad with crispy chicken, not their cold grilled chicken, is honestly the best chicken salad I’ve had in Salem. It’s just too bad they’re so inconsistent. You just never know what you’re going to get. When cooked right, their food is really good. It’s the reason we keep coming back. But more often than not, we end up disappointed. We used to go once a week, now it’s only a few x’s a year. I would highly recommend going in person because at least if they mess up, you can have them fix it immediately. There is also outdoor seating with umbrellas and a bar with a separate entrance. We went for lunch at 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon and there were two other parties being served. The restaurant was clean, but dated and run down. The plants out front were half dead and the bench for sitting was crumbling. We ordered a cherry Pepsi and an Arnold Palmer. The tea was perfect but the cherry Pepsi had little to no grenadine (even though they charge extra for that). We ordered a monte cristo and a club sandwich. Both were huge. The cristo was both greasy and dry but tasted fine. There was lots of meat and very little cheese. It came with a big bowl of very watered down maple “flavored” syrup. It was not sweet, just greasy. I asked for jam instead and received plastic jelly packets. The powdered sugar was so light, this sandwich can’t be considered sweet like the menu claims. The club on the other hand had some very sweet sauce, which is not traditional on the club, as well as some other, added bits. It was better than the cristo. The fries were greasy rather than crispy. They charged 1.79 for ranch. The service wasn’t great. We had to ask for cutlery and napkins. The server seemed annoyed when I asked what the bowl of syrup was. Both sandwiches were 20 bucks each, and at that price you’re expecting something a little more elevated. Word of mouth has the same sandwich at a cheaper price and a much higher quality. Everything we ordered was a large portion of low quality food. I can’t recommend this place to anyone, but if they just increased the quality of their food and offered portions much smaller. I think this could’ve been a much better rating. Our total was $60 after tip. We won’t eat here again. For $60 for two sandwiches… you can do way better elsewhere.

I've given Annettes a pass several times during the pandemic. Labor shortages blah blah blah... Today, I used their new online ordering option. I ordered a Chicken Bacon Salad for $15.99 and ordered a extra side of ranch for $1.79. Adding in a 20% tip I spent just over $22 dollars. I arrived on time for pick-up according to the email. The restaurant was fairly busy. The hostess informed me it would be an additional 10 minutes. I waited 15 and inquired again. Yes it's ready! My $1.79 ranch was a 1-ounce cup! Ha! Is it laced with gold? And, my side of onions certainly have seen better days... Needless to say I was disappointed by my offering which came sans bag... Whatever, I'm starving and don't have access to my kitchen due to flooring being installed. I get halfway home and open the box to see what the actual salad looked like. Yum, as usual! However, my "free" included dressing was M.I.A. as was my damned garlic bread! Needless to say, I'm more than irritated! Whomever collected the tip on my order should have insured everything was there! And, the gals explanation that the reasoning behind the price in the tiny tiny ranch is, "The Roadhouse charges $2!!!" Ummm, WTAF? I've eaten at Annette's so many times and 8f you ask for a boat of ranch, they bring it. This time in done and I'm sharing. Shame on them!

Went to dine with my girlfriend. Chose this restaurant for their outdoor dog-friendly seating. There were some patrons already seated with their dogs, enjoying their food. My girlfriend took my dog and sat down at one of the empty outdoor tables. I went in to let them know we were sitting outside due to having my service dog with me. The hostess looked bothered that I was talking to her. She said that only the outside tables with umbrellas will be serviced. All the tables without umbrellas were not going to be seated or serviced. She said it would be at least 20 minutes before one would become available. I told her we would try to find another restaurant as we were on a somewhat tight schedule but if we didn’t find an alternative we would return and wait. We returned approximately 15 minutes later and a table with an umbrella was available. I went in and informed the hostess that we would like to be seated there however it had not been bussed yet. She said that she would have it cleared. We waited over 20 minutes and no one came to clear it. I finally just went in to ask for a menu so we could just order to go. The hostess came up to the counter slammed two menus down, did not even acknowledge me (I hadn’t even had the chance to ask her for menus), turned around and walked away. I took the menus out to my girlfriend so we could decide what to get. I went back inside, waited another 5 minutes for the hostess to acknowledge me so we could place our to go order. She, again, appeared to be annoyed that I was bothering her. After placing the order I went back outside. The reason this review isn’t all one star is because one of the employees, “Zerick” was kind enough to bring me and my girlfriend two cups of water, and a bowl to put water in for my dog. 2 sides of bacon, 2 sides of sausage, one side of hashed browns, and 2 scrambled eggs were almost $40. The experience I had here, as a poc, I will never dine here again. Thanks to Zerick for being kind to us. Aside from him, this place had the...

I called in an order for my dinner at around 8 o’clock, I wanted enchiladas beef if they could make them. He said he could make me pulled pork enchiladas. I said that was fine. It also came with hashbrowns which kind of threw me off but OK I wish I had taken a picture of it but my husband has it right now and is bringing it back the next day, but it snowed and you were closed. What I received in my meal was two tortillas rolled up with some egg, bell pepper, onion, and cheese, no pork and who has eggs and enchiladas. That’s not what I wanted. I wasn’t aware that that’s how you make your enchiladas and you know one ever said anything About eggs or being a breakfast menu thing. it was too late to bring it back in order. Anything else when I called and let you know what was going on when I did talk to your front desk receptionist on the phone. She said it was loaded with pork. There was not a drop of pork in the enchiladas. It was egg bell pepper onion cheese rolled up with some tomato sauce,on top that looked dried out and a gob of sour cream in the middle. My husband was bringing it back so that you could see what I was talking about. It kind of sound like the lady didn’t answer. The phone really Didn’t want to refund my money, but She said I could order something else. I looked at your menu and I don’t really see anything other than maybe a bacon lettuce and tomato or maybe a Reuben sandwich that I would really like but this is the third time I’ve eaten at Annette and my order has been messed up mind do I have eaten there a couple times than that and the order was good food it took a while to get. We sat there a long time before we got to eat and some of it was cold, but it was good. I just wanna let you know what happened to me at the nuts last night. I really really didn’t feel like cooking and there was nothing in the house that I wanted to eat fast But I couldn’t have dinner that night because I don’t like egg enchiladas thank you...
