April's II Restaurant — Restaurant in Salem

It was me & 2 other people. Food was good, portions were good as well. I guess my problem was we were only greeted to take our order, when the food was dropped off and then whom I assume was the busser dropped off our check. No one checked in on us, we had empty drinks for half our meals. We didn’t get refills until our check was dropped off and we were pretty much all set with our meal. I am a server myself so honestly the fact we weren’t checked up on at least once was my issue. We get the bill and a automatic 18% tip was added, on a bill for $50 and only 3 people. When I asked about this the waitress said it’s automatically added on bills over $60. Our bill was $56 something plus tax so it was a little over $60. I asked if this is any where on the menu and she said you weren’t told about it when they dropped off the bill I was like no. At first I didnt realize they had added the automatic tip, until we paid and I double checked. The receipt we signed doesn’t even say tip was added already. Usually when it’s automatic gratuity it says +(w.e extra amount you want to leave extra) it said 18% over the total that had already included the previous tip. Everything about April's II is amazing! My husband and I have become regulars now. Great prices, the staff are all awesome, super nice, friendly and welcoming. The chefs are incredible. Even a simple scrambled eggs, bacon and toast always tastes great. We have had like half the menu, and every single thing is so tasty and has great flavor! The Dominican Benedict is my fave! My husband loves the spinach and feta omelet as well as the meat lovers omelet. Pancakes are huge and fluffy, all benedicts are amazing, french toast, churro french toast, chicken and Waffles, all yummy! Quesadillas are always packed full of ingredients and flavor. Cheeseburger club, Ruben, etc. are all great! There is no way you will be disappointed here. Meals come out quickly and everything is fresh! April’s II in Salem, MA is by far my favorite, go to place! It’s a clean, friendly atmosphere, with plenty of FREE parking, which is highly unusual in Salem. The owners, Maria & Julio, treat the regulars like extended family & if you’re lucky enough, on any given day, their lovely daughter, April might be there, to grace you with her presence. April’s II food is top notch, in quality, quantity & presentation. Many of the recipes are prepared fresh, by Julio, himself… such as potato salad, coleslaw, salad dressings & many more. The kitchen staff is consistent in their cooking methods & flavors. I highly recommend the April’s Salad w/Salmon, Eggs Benny, Monfongo Chicken Broccoli Ziti or the Fried Haddock Sandwich on a nice fresh brioche roll.
