Cafe Yumm! - Candalaria Crossing — Restaurant in Salem

Unfortunately, I won't be returning to Cafe Yumm. Here's why:

A little context to start: I enjoy this type of food, and I want to eat a meal that isn't excessive, but is filling.

I ordered a medium sized Original bowl, and it was probably about half the amount I would eat if I had made this at home, which I could have easily done for a fraction of the price. So, I give Cafe Yumm a very low score on being served enough food, regardless of the price. Factor in the price, and it is far too expensive.

As for flavor, my bowl was very bland. Disclaimer: I ordered it without cheese and sour cream. However, I still expected it to be flavorful with rice, beans, avocado, pico de gallo, olives, and Yumm sauce. It was not. It tasted very bland - I was asking myself, 'where is the salt?'. Additionally, it tasted as though the black beans came straight from a can of water without being patted dry; aka watery.

Lastly, I second another reviewer's remarks about the food coming out without any silverware. It wouldn't take much of an effort for the staff to put silverware on the plates, but it would go a long way in making us customers feel appreciated.

My experience was much better then anticipated. I was getting a meal before work, and I pulled into a nearby hamburger place that is great, knowing that I wouldn't feel my best at work after consuming a burger and fries. I decided I didn't want it that bad. I had read online and heard from someone that CafeYumm was good. So I drove across four plus lanes of trafific. I Went in checked out the menu and decided to start at the top with the Original and since I have to try Cole slaw every chance I can I ordered a side. My total was $10.00. After approx. One minute it was ready. I saw the cashier bag up two pretty small dishes of food. I thought that wasn't much for sevenn dollars. Anyway I went to my car and was starving so I took a bite of both items. And I was in heaven. When I got home wishing I would have ordered an extra Asian slaw sauce Sat down and I could only eat half of everything. I went back a few days later purchased an original and one with chicken and a whole bottle of slaw sauce and a euohoria cookie. I’m super frustrated with Cafe Yumm! Their proportions have become ridiculous! I will not continue getting an ice cream scoop of rice and beans and being told we cut our serving sizes... didn’t cut your prices tho, did you?! If I ask for a large and you give me the same amount that comes in a small just a bigger bowl that is deceptive! I want to eat a healthier alternative to other food places not be taken advantage of. I called and complained and they offered me a free bowl but I declined, I didn’t call to get a free anything, I just get so sick and tired of getting taken advantage of as a consumer! My friends and family have also expressed their frustration with not only the serving sizes but the quality of food. Rice being undercooked, tomatoes being rotten, and over kill on olives to make up for lack of rice and beans.

Also: The Chicken is not good at all!
