My friend and I were exploring in Salem and we were getting hungry for a bite to eat.

We happened upon this place called the Great Wall Buffet and I think it was called a Great Wall for a reason.

Everything was bland tasting, The selection was meh and the service was even worse and I cannot describe the food quality in polite company. They had sushi, my favorite, but it was foul tasting filled so much with rice I cannot honestly see how they could even call it sushi.

We arrived at that awkward time just after lunch and into dinner and they put the "good stuff" out but that was equally disgusting. In the back of my mind I was thinking you get what you pay for but the dinner food was just as bad as the lunch food and was not worth the increased price for the dinner food and for the increased price of the meal it was certainly not worth it.

The service was sub standard and they only came by to remove the dishes and hand us the bill, even when I left my empty cup to suggest a refill of my beverage (a hint to most dining establishments to ask for a refill without asking) they just ignored it.

If you are considering going here don't, there are better values in Salem and if you have to go over the "Great Wall" for a unlimited buffet at a fantastic value and great service you will...

Below -0 rating. We had a wonderful time, not meal, when we arrived. The food wasn't the best but edible since we had spent a fortune on it anyway. I had three adults and three children. A four year old, a three year old and a 9 month old baby. My 9 month old baby was in a highchair. We were eating and talking enjoying our time and my baby had made a mess. Usually when a child makes a mess the parent doesn't spend the whole time cleaning up as it falls....so the parent can eat too..but then the manager comes to our table asking if we were going to pick up after our child. We started to explain then he started getting angry with us telling us we were wasting food and just making a bunch of mess and just complaining about us. Then finally he asks "You're American, huh?" I don't feel the need to explain much further. Needless to say we werent happy with him about asking that so after the conversation we just left. Great Wall does not have very good customer service. I understand we made a mess but we weren't finished eating either. It's not like we sit around at home or around restaurants just leaving messes and being disrespectful. He's a baby. We would have gotten to it. Customer is always right. Learn some...

My fience and i went tgere saturday night about 7. Paid the $13.99 expecting to have a full buffet. We pay and getbsituated and go get food. As we go threw the buffet they were out of at least 40% of there food. Waiting a little while to see if they put any fresh out so made a plate of salad. Finished and went back to check, still empty. So i informed tge waiter and he shook his head. So i went to get another small plate of something. Ate it and went back and still empty. This really frustrated me so my fience and i told the guy up front he said he'd take care of it. By then it was about 8pm. I wanted to leave but my fience told me lets wait a little long. Sp we went and got what little they had left of california rolls (cause thats all thet had left) and sat back down. Waited about thirty minutes and went back to see if anything had been refilled. Once again nothing!! I went up to the front again and asked him, he said the cook stopped cooking already and won't make anything since it's close to close. I got there at 7, that's 3hrs away from being closed!! If your going to own a damn buffet make sure its full till close!! Needless to say we...

Great Wall Buffet 2875 Commercial St SE, Salem, OR 97302 What can i say? Standard Chinese buffet is like we are accustomed to. Being there at 6pm on a friday, we were seated very quickly and served our drinks. From 6:30pm on, the customers poured in. The restaurant remained very clean and the tables were cleaned and ready for the next customers quickly. The food options were refilled every 5-15 minutes keeping the food hot and fresh. The crab 🦀 wontons were soft, not over cook crunchy. The spring rolls were good and crispy on the outside.  There were enough seafood options for those who crave buffet style Chinese food. The sweet and sour chicken 🐔 coating was perfect, no old oil taste and not greasy. We have been to Chinese buffets acrost the western states, and although our favorite and most expansive is in Tucson Az,   Great Wall delivers acceptable expectations for the area. Looking at the pricing $$. M-F is same cost, and only raising it $2 for the weekend. Look at the food 📸 photos and count how many different items on out plates.

The Great Wall Buffet is a great family place for dinner. Our family has been eating there for over 20 years! It was, especially, a great place for our Family visit, after our 30-day, Ramadan Fasting period!! There is a variety of food available - all types of Chinese entrees, with chow mein and rice noodles, and rice varieties; a variety of meats and seafood is included, and Nant vegetable combo favorites, and a made-to-order Stir-fry station! Three types of soups are typical, wonton and buns, a Sushi bar, a salad and seasonal fruits bar! There's also Pizza to delight the kids! Later, a dessert bar, full of cookies, and the famous donut-like treats, and the very moist, and delicious, cake varieties rounds out a delightful meal! Adult pricing includes Senior discounts and children 3 to 10 years, cost $1.35 per year. There is an Additional cost for drinks which seems a bit odd to me! The host and waiters are courteous and you are able to enjoy your meal without feeling rushed!

Came by on a Friday night with my son. Everything's was filled and lots of selection. Great Mongolian Grill very friendly service at the front desk and by the griller. Our waitress sadly kept chatting with other staff and never brought us the water we asked for only our hot tea. When I finally went up and asked for the water she didn't seem to speak much English and it probably took another 10 to 15 minutes of waiting for the water. If it had been busy I would not have mentioned it but it was seemingly slow. Other than that everything was great and they had my favorites, rice noodles and fried plantains. I was surprised that they did not have any sushi. Almost every Chinese buffet I've been to had sushi. Either way we will be back. :-)
