Thought my wife and I try this place before we hit a 7pm movie. Came in about 5:30 p.m., took our seats and was greeted by an older lady who seemed to not be in the best mood. Ordered our drinks. Many others arrived around the same time and were served as well. We received our drinks fairly quick but were never asked if we wanted to order. By 6pm, other patrons that came in around the same time had sat, gotten drinks, ordered food , and began being served their food. Another person at our table got up a tracked the lady down to tell her we were ready to order. At 6:10 p.m., she never made an effort to return, so we left disappointed. As a Botetourt county resident and an employee of a very large Salem employer, I try to support my fellow local business best I can but this was just disappointing. I had heard good things about the food and looked forward to it. Hopefully, it was just a real off day for her. I understand we all...

This used to be one of the best places in Salem to have breakfast. Now the portions have been so reduced It’s barely filling and breakfast today without coffee cost me 26 bucks! That’s ridiculous, I mean absolutely ridiculous for breakfast to cost that much. Four bucks for a thimble full of potatoes, another five bucks for three scrappy scrawny, looking little pieces of bacon and a omelette that you could barely see on the plate, I’m sorry I absolutely love the people here but the pricing for what you get is just not worth it! And I don’t wanna hear excuses like the cost of things these days! There are other restaurants that you can eat at that the portions are much better and the prices are about half what they are here so if they can do it, why can’t Chip and Jo’s do it? Again, I hate to be negative because I love these guys. I’ve been eating here for years, but their pricing is just got...

I have frequently ordered take out from this restaurant and had an experience this morning that left me pretty disappointed. I called in a lunch order according to the menu that they have online with the prices posted. The person who took my order gave me a total that was a lot more than what the online menu prices are showing. When I went to pick up the order I was told the online menu is not even accurate and prices have went up. I do understand in this economy that things have went up but also we are pinching our pennies and would like to know what we are spending. I would strongly suggest taking down your menu offline until it can be corrected. Am I supposed to call and ask the price of everything on the menu. This is just bad business and false...

Beth was our Server. She was very nice, and attentive. One of the things that really struck me was just how much kindness and respect she showed those who are elderly. I'm sure the people that she dealt with are regulars, and with a Server like that it's no wonder. The food was really good especially the butter toffee cake for dessert. Another thing that was really impressive is unlike a lot of other places, the half + half creamers that were on the table were cold and not room temperature. We got the crab cakes and the fish and chips. The slaw was not what we were used to, it's more of a vinegar rather than mayo one. It's a place that I would consider going back to again. Next time since they serve breakfast all day, we'll probably get that for dinner.😊

First time there…very nice staff…hubby ordered the tenderloin with 2 eggs scrambled along with apples and a biscuit….the serving size was very nice for the price and enough to bring home for a second meal…he only wished it had come with white gravy…I had the tuna salad sandwich…unfortunately it tasted like the tubs of tuna salad you get from the grocery store…way to much pickle and mayo for my liking..it came with chips which where the single serving size of Ruffles….we will go back again and try something else…the pancakes others around us ordered were enormous and smelled delicious. Picture attached of those! Would have given it 5 stars if the tuna salad had been homemade.

We tried Chip & Jo’s for the first time, and it was everything we heard about from the excellent service to mouth watering food. We ordered the breakfast and it was outstanding. This place reminds me of the old 70s style restaurant that you don’t find very often anymore. Put this amazing place on your bucket list and you won’t be disappointed. We will definitely be back next time we are in the Salem area.
