We had a WAY less than pleasant dining experience on a Tues (02/21) with a close couple on their first time visit… Over our recent 3-4 visits, we noticed a definite decline in service and quality of food. Usually we sit at the Bar, which is excellent with top-notch cocktails and BarKeeps that know their mixology and how to attend bar diners. It’s disappointing the same level can not be met in the DR.
Wait times (for ANYTHING) in the DR are interminable. After bragging on their Oysters Rock, we tried to place an order for 2, only to told they were out of oysters. Not good. Please get rid of the cheap Crackers with the Crab Dip & Crackers. Do something else!
The table bread bought out was fresh cut off a Grocery store loaf. It was cheap, plain, and a very poor selection.
It took 45 minutes for our (1) Wedge Salad to arrive. Our Guest requested the Wedge Salad be halved, but it arrived on a single plate (our Guest tried to halve it herself)!! Timely delivery of Entrees and Sides to our table was an exercise in poor timing, delays, and no coordination. Entrees were bought in 2 shifts. Sides took several deliveries. One never showed up.
2 of 3 Steaks were undercooked. Our Carrots were not cooked enough and very crunchy. Creamed Spinach side was just never delivered.
If FR intends to replicate their Roanoke level(s) in Salem they have quite a fer piece to go. They are the single “fine dining” establishment in Salem, but after this recent (and several prior...) dining experience, we’d recommend other Restaurants in Roanoke for better service and pricing.

Read moreI’m an avid fan of Frankie Rowland’s and have visited the Roanoke location many times for both business and pleasure. Saturday, August 14, 2021 was my first visit to the Salem location. This visit was like no other I have experienced at Frankie’s.
The environment was the same upscale décor as the location in Roanoke. However, the food was not what you would expect. I had surf and turf. The lobster arrived before the steak. When the steak arrived a few minutes later, it was not prepared as requested and had to be taken back. It took some 4-5 minutes for the steak to be cooked as ordered and returned. As you can guess by this time my Lobster had gotten cold.
When my steak arrived back at our table I inquired about the potatoes au gratin I had ordered with my meal. They informed me that they would get them immediately. By the time I was about to complete my steak and lobster they offered them to me which I politely declined. I am guessing some 15 minutes has passed at this point.
In addition, my date informed me the next day that the baked potato she had ordered with her meal arrived half cooked at best! She was very sweet and didn’t mention that fact during our meal as she saw my struggle with mine. An embarrassment that I would not want to experience again.
When you visit an establishment such as Frankie Rowland’s and know you are going to pay over $200.00 for a meal, you expect and deserve to have the experience you went there for in the first place. We did not and it was a disappointment and embarrassment both. I hope that the Salem location can become what I love about Frankie Rowland’s in Roanoke.
Yours truly,...
Read moreComplete horrible experience and I mean absolutely horrible. Me and my fiancé tried to dine here because I proposed to her at there location in Roanoke (which was an amazing experience) this one not so. We called ahead to ensure of availability and make sure we we following all COVID-19 protocols. We were told that it wasn’t a busy night and there cook didn’t stop cooking until 10 so as long as we were there before 9:45 we were fine, and we’d be ask to wear a mask. We arrived roughly 8:25-8:30 we forgot our mask in the car (to which we were told we didn’t need them anyway) so we were immediately seated. No one came back to ask about beverages, appetizers, or to even see if we were still there until roughly 8:45. Finally they came and brought us water (not that we asked for it because they never asked us what type of beverage we’d like) but we sipped on our water until roughly 9:25 until some one came and gave there sincere apologies and gave us some bread and butter. Finally our server came and took our order and brought us some drinks, then here comes 10pm still no food no appetizers or anything we had to stop another server and ask could our server come to our table, we tell her could we just get the bill for our drinks (which was brought back to us in less than two minutes) but still no food period. As we walking out the best thing I can said one of the ladies apologies for our bad experience. I can’t say I’ll never eat here again because I wasn’t afforded the opportunity to actually eat here, but I’ll never try...
