Really wanted to love this place. It's odd, nothing was SO bad that I'd say "We are never coming back!" but all the little problems added up to "not likely to return."
The issues: We got a queen standard suite. That was NOT a queen sized bed. My wife and I have a queen. We sleep comfortably in it. My feet hung off the end of the bed (I'm 6') and I'm a "don't touch me while I'm sleeping" kinda person. The bed is so narrow I had to sleep on the sofa two of the three nights. My wife guessed they are Ikea mattresses, as those are apparently not standard US mattress sizes? If that's an Ikea queen, then it's about as narrow as a standard Full, and shorter.
Noise. When these lofts were built whatever contractor did it did nothing to insulate the walls. Second night there, the room text to ours was clearly a mirror image of ours, and the TV was likely mounted to the other side of the wall the TV in ours was. I got to listen to them watch TV. If there is ANY insulation between the rooms, I would be shocked. Also 24/7 there was an intermittent squealing coming from what I thought was in the hall. This morning before we left we had breakfast in the adjoining Salem Diner, and saw a very long hallway running down the length of the building, with the kitchen area basically on the other side of the wall opposite our door. And something in there apparently would squeal constantly. Absolutely zero privacy whatsoever.
Light. There is ONE external window in the loft - in the bedroom. From which zero natural light can make it into the kitchen or livingroom area. Wouldn't be the end of the world except every light fixture except the track light in the kitchen used way underpowered bulbs. Twice per day I'd start to get antsy and need to get outside, it was dim and dreary in there.
Privacy. Ignoring the fact the walls were so thin you could hear everything, the window in the bedroom, at least on the first floor, was floor to ceiling and the walkway to get into the build went right past it. If the blinds were open enough to let light in, you were clearly visible from the walkway, which was about 5-6 feet from the bed.
The decor was great. The comfort was great (if you fit in the bed). Amenities were great. Price was great. Almost everything was great - but the things that weren't were absolute dealbreakers. Hate to say that we won't be...
Read moreWe drove around back to the back of the building where there is a restaurant you can also park closer, but there are about 8 places to park. There does happen to be a parking lot across the street from the restaurant you can park. It was a muddy mess the night we came in, plus we had to drag all of our luggage and bags into the building. There's a long sidewalk up the side of the building to get there. There's no handicap access inside the building. AND NO ELEVATOR. We were put on second floor and I called the number they left on the fridge for problems. They said they were booked and couldn't help us move to the 1st floor. He was nice but was unable to help any of my problems. There was another couple unhappy with the whole situation being disabled and no elevator. The building is really neat and it's been redone beautiful, but the room looked dusty and dirty. I realize in a 100 yr old building with ceiling to the roof it will be hard to clean every nook and cranny however, there were still hairs stuck on the wall in the bathroom, cobwebs in many places, footprints on the wall where it looked like someone tried to climb a metal pole in the room. (You would think they would use touch up paint). I always bring my own cleaning stuff for just such problems, and I had to wipe off the fridge, wash the ice maker bucket before I was comfortable using it. The toilet brush was disgusting! The fan blades had dust built up on them and the air registers looked like they had not been cleaned in a long time. The stove had been used alot. I'm sure it had been a long stay rental which is no problem, I just like it cleaner, an elevator, and a closer place to park-especially when paying premium prices!! You can park at the Wells Fargo bank lot in the back too, just not during banking hours. I was stuck because alot of places were booked due to the events going on among other things in town. I had photos to share, but for some reason, it said the folder...
Read moreI stayed at these lofts with my handicapped mother. We wanted something nicer than the standard hotel and these definitely fit the bill. We both loved the look of our room and they were very clean. There were a few hang ups related to my mother being in a wheelchair I need to express. The curb to get to the actual walkway to the building does not have an appropriate gradient for wheelchairs, so she had to be lifted up or pushed through the grass beside the dumpster. Also, for use of the bathroom a shower bench would have been more functional than a chair and a grab bar for the shower would have also been helpful. My feedback for non ADA related issues is, I think more thorough directions texted to guests the day of check in for getting into the building would have been very helpful. I had to ask the ladies working at the restaurant how to get in. A group of guys arrived at the same time as myself and they were equally as confused. For the use of Hulu live, the directions on the paper Emily gave us were not correct, this needs to be updated to save texting someone for assistance. As another guest mentioned in their review, if you are sensitive to hearing noise from other guests rooms these may not be a great fit for you. I literally heard everything from the room next door to me, and I do mean everything! Even though I've given a lot of constructive feedback, overall I enjoyed my stay the lofts and I would come back. I love the history of the building and I appreciate the cleanliness, unique style and convenience to...
