My family and I went to Mac and Bob's yesterday 8/3/17. Our son wanted a burger but my husband and I wanted something more dinner appropriate. We chose Mac and Bobs because we thought it would be a place that would satisfy our range of desired items.
We ordered the Warm Artichoke Crab Dip as our appetizer. This dish was ok... it tasted like warm tuna smothered in cream cheese. There was very little flavor. The thing that saved it from being terrible were the toasted pita chips, although, there were not enough chips on the plate to finish the dip and my husband and I were scooping the dip out with a spoon and slathering it onto the pita chips. This dish was $8.99, for that price there should have been a heaping plate of pita chips to go with the dip and the dip itself should have tasted amazing.
My son ordered the Cheese Burger add Bacon. It came with French Fries and some pickle chips. He said it tasted good and he enjoyed it. This dish was $10.99.
My husband ordered Salmon Filet. Grilled salmon filet, served on a bed of arugula and baby kale mixed with a citrus vinaigrette and he chose the wild rice as a side dish. This dish looked lovely when it arrived, the presentation was great. My husband felt that the Salmon Filet had no flavor, it was bland and overcooked. The arugula was bitter (which arugula tends to be), however to combat the bitterness of the arugula it was paired with a citrus vinaigrette. The citrus vinaigrette was overly sweet and not the best choice for that dish. The wild rice was fine. This dish was $17.99.
Last and definitely least was the Chicken Marsala that I ordered. Chicken filet sautéed in a Marsala wine cream sauce with sliced portabella mushrooms, topped with melted mozzarella cheese and served over a bed of angel hair pasta. I will say I changed the pasta to wild rice. I thought they would bring the rice on the side like they did my husbands. I get that its my fault for not communicating that and I was willing to overlook that. So I grabbed my fork and knife and went to work. It was gross. I have only sent food back one time in my life and as of last night I have had to change that to twice. The creams sauce was thin and runny, Chicken Marsala is supposed to be a savory dish and it was overly sweet. I will say the portion was generous, however, that becomes a moot point when you have a pile of yuck in front of you. This dish was listed at $15.99.
Our waitress (Victoria S.) was wonderful, she saw that I was not happy with my dish and she did try her hardest to make it right. Unfortunately after waiting for 30 minutes for our dinners to come, I could make my family wait another 30 min for me to get something else. Victoria had my dish removed from our bill and kindly brought us the check.
If you are going to charge big city prices for you dishes you need to bring the big city flare to your dishes. As someone that has lived in NY I am very familiar with prices Mac & Bob’s charges, and I do not mind paying those prices if the food quality is on point. My family and I will not be dining there again and I do not recommend unless you are going there for an overpriced...
Read moreHaven't been to Mac and Bob's in years, and it was as good as I remember. The menu is huge, and everyone at our table enjoyed their lunch of fish tacos and a quesadilla. I had the soup and quiche, and both were flavorful and tasty. The service was exceptional. I asked about the soup of the day, and our server brought everyone a sample before ordering. I ordered the soup, and it was exceptional, with a tomato base, finely minced chicken, with lots of flavorful herbs. The serving of broccoli and cheese quiche was large, and the cheese made the dish. The crowd for lunch was consistent, and the staff seated and served everyone quickly. There was no lag in service at our table. We were not asked if we wanted to order dessert, but that was not necessary. To go boxes were brought without prompting, and checks were taken at the table. Adjacent paid parking was free if the ticket was validated by the server, but there was no signage announcing this benefit. Overall, it was a very pleasant lunch with good food, excellent service, a pleasant atmosphere, and fair prices. I recommend a lunch trip to Mac and Bob's in downtown Salem. Sorry, I forgot to snap some pics until leaving! FYI: Our awesome server was Beth J.
4/6/2025 Visited Mac and Bobs with a party of 6 for a late lunch. Service was fast, but the server rarely checked for any needs during the meal. The food came in a timely manner. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and was very disappointed. No mushrooms or other veggies or condiments, just meat, onions, green peppers, and a generous portion of cheese, which had turned into a plastic like substance. The bread was nicely toasted, but the dish was very hard to eat, as it was dry and the cheese was not appetizing to eat. I ate a quarter of the sandwich and took the rest home, where I added some tomatoes, mayo, scraped off some of the plastic cheese, and it was much more palatable. The accompanying side salad was great, with delicious honey mustard dressing. The ice tea was bitter. Others indicated pleasure or some disappointment with their food. We sent back some pizza for additional cooking. The restaurant was very busy, and I know staff...
Read moreI've eaten here 3x so far and the food and staff have been excellent, until tonight. Just a food review for take-out.
Went here for take-out tonight. Ordered over the phone around 630pm and picked up our food about 7pm. Fast time to prepare especially for a place who's parking lot was slammed full of vehicles, spilling over into adjacent lots and alleyways on a Thursday night. The reserved spaces for pick-up were taken by people NOT there for pick-up. So parking was at a premium, I had to let my passenger off and drive around the block so not to get in the way of cars leaving the lot.
My bill was $46! For Cheezy Fries and 2 Regular Salads. My Cheezy Fries were $11.99 that was a hearty portion of steak fries with a mound of thick shreeded cheddar cheese and probably a half a small bag of real bacon bits dumped on top of my fries, not layered so ONLY the fries on top got cheese. It came with about a cup of watery ranch dressing.
My GF got a very impressive Regular Salem Salad with 3 HUGE Chicken Strips on top (see photo). This was a monster of a Salad for $14.99! And great value for the money.
I got apart from Cheezy Fries, the Regular portion of the Gorgonzola Salad but with Honey Mustard and Mozzarella cheese instead of Gorgonzola. My Salad was also $14.99 and look how pitiful it is compared to the Salem Salad (pictured). The Gorgonzola Salad is meant to mirror Wendy's apple pecan chicken salad but comes up ridiculously short. And is WAYYY overpriced. 5 very thinly sliced Granny Smith Apples, Dried Cranberries and roasted sweet pecans in a bed of weeds.
For the amount of money I paid I could've gone to Wendy's or Chick-fil-A and gotten better salads and more food for this ridiculous price I paid for take-out. Now I can see spending this much on service at a table but this was 2 entrees, 1 appetizer and NO Drinks.
But it's not like they need my business. Most of Salem was there tonight. Not sure when I'll go back, maybe after I get...
