Todays experience was one ill never forget and not in ways one will hope for. The waitress that served us was not only very disrespectful but also very unprofessional from the moment we walked in to the last min we left. She didn't state welcome in, sit wherever you like or any for.al greeting it was you guys can sit over here. Once seated she didn't bring up drinks just waters and by the time we ordered food we had to bring up we needed drinks. Once the food came out it was 2 things at a time and she complained about space to bring out food even though the restaurant was about half empty at this point. We get about halfway through our food and instead of checking on how the food was did we need any refills she went to every other table doing just that we had to flag her down to get a refill. Lastly toward the end I found a hair in my food and for me I'm not one to complain you know logically it could have been mine for the hair found it wasn't until the second one that was much longer and glued to my French toast is where I lost my appetite. It wasn't until my husband brought it up to the waitress about the hair that I not only lost all respect but was insulted all at the same time. She stated I'm sorry that happened and can remake and I stated no there was no need I was already grossed out, she then states well there is no discount that can be added since I ate most of the food. This is when I became insult I never brought up I wanted a discount or the food to be removed just to address the problem with the kitchen that is preparing your food for the guest was all I cared for so someone doesn't have to go through this again. She then has a discussion over whether she so fix the bill or not my husband goes to pay the bill and then I ask him did you tip which we did not and as the last person of our group leave she hears the waitress gossip about no tip. Im sorry but coming from family who worked for their tips In restaurant industry. I'm sorry but you get in tips the service you provide. After that we have made the decision that this will be our last...
Read moreOne year later update: i've not been on for about ten months. Not only did they recall my favorite boothe, name, and meal, but remember my bran muffins. Never had a place with such wonderful service and amazing breakfast. Since 1936, and heres to 2036. Come grab a bite and enjoy this treasure of traditional downtown diner experience. Remember, they close at 2pm, and it can get very busy. I have memories of going to diners a lot as a kid, and this one was one of my favorites because (as a kid) I really enjoyed eating at a diner counter. Now, older, i find myself impressed with the quality of food, the amount of care put into the atmosphere, staffing, and specials. They're friendly and warm to chat with, and can recognize if you're in a state of focus. Their Morning Glory muffins alone are the highlight of my weeks when i come in. Food is portioned amazingly well, sometimes I cant finish a plate, or take a little longer. They never make you feel rushed, by the way. Food is also hearty and does not hold a greasy quality to it, which I am very happy with. I taste more of the flavor of the meal; and the chefs and owners bust butt making sure your order is accurate.
If the review felt long and overly praised, thats because its accurate to my fee-fees. This place still elicits a feeling of childhood nostalgia, a nerdy feeling of Twin Peaks Diner scenes, and the comforting feeling of Home, when I'm here.
So, go drop a few bucks. Get a warm morning glory, and for breakfast I encourage a 15½, as you get a mini platter of delicious food (and bacon and sausage thats actually...
Read moreMy experience at this restaurant lately has been absolutely awful. My grandfather introduced me to this restaurant a few years ago and i always noticed a racist undertone to this restaurant either getting served before others and receiving food after people who have gotten there after us and the constant stares from people who eat there. When i’d go with my grandpa the waitresses were actually respectful and caring but after i started going with my girlfriend who is also not white we have been getting treated terribly. Menus thrown at us, sitting there waiting for a menu while other people get helped immediately, And no check up after we get our food other than the waitresses taking the card so we can pay for the meal. The waitress tiffany P specifically acts as if taking our order is the most painful things she’s ever experienced and me and my girlfriend have seen her act nicer towards white customers but rude and standoffish to us. This behavior needs to change there’s countless reviews about the blatant racism and discrimination that goes on in this establishment. And it’s not easy to stop eating here because this is my favorite breakfast place in salem. But because of the raising prices and obvious intolerance for anyone that isn’t white there’s no reason to keep...
