Well, I broke my own rule...I tried a small town cafe for a second time after a disastrous first meal...all I can say is strike two, and this diner won’t be back.We came to town for a big barrel race in may, read all the glowing reviews of mom’s and went for dinner. My daughter and I both had different specials, the salad bar was barren and filthy, and my veal cutlet was still frozen in the center. The service was extremely slow and frankly rude. Yuck! Well we are back for another barrel race (awesome facility and event management - kudos to Blackhawk Arena and Burns Saddlery) and decided to give Mom’s another try tonight. We ordered their prime rib special and decided to share. I ordered an extra cup of soup. Veg beef- easy right? Obviously homemade with lots of veggies, but so salty, it made me vomit. My daughter stopped mid-spoonful. Our dinner arrived and it had been placed on a flat-top, but was raw, I cut away the outside edge and the meat was cool, raw with white congealed fat. Heck, I’m in the beef business, I like beef rare, but this was raw, cold and our waitress never came back even after I walked to the counter after vomiting to have a word with her. I hope no idea how this nasty lil place stays in business. It’s been awful twice, and if I were a health inspector, I’d shut it down. The help is either incompetent, just rude or both. Several younger gals behind the counter, but when you attempt to get help or ask them to ring you up, they say they are not allowed. I truly believe that mom’s is going to make someone seriously ill or worse. Don’t believe the reviews, there are framed articles all over the walls, and I rather eat one of them than try mom’s cooking again. Gross!!! BTW, first time in 56 years of life that I have ever given a review like this, it was that bad. Save yourselves, RUN away from Moms. PS, had a tasty meal at ElMexicano just up the road from Moms. My daughter had shrimp fajitas and I had a chicken enchilada, all homemade and fresh. The place...
Read moreWe drove nearly an hour to eat here as I have been coming here for many many years. Used to eat here with my grandfather/ family when I was younger. It has really gone down hill sadly. First off multiple sets of silver ware had nasty caked, dried food on it. One of the plates was dirty as well. My salad appeared good till I realized it had extremely wilted, slimy black spoiled lettuce in it. Alot of it. My grandsons chicken nuggets were extremely over cooked ,nearly burnt. The rest of the food was mediocre. Not horrible but not great. The mashed potatoes texture and taste was as if they had been leftovers sitting in a container and reheated, the gravy way too salty and not terrific either. The fries were cold. Tgey were out of multiple items on the menu. Very dissapointing. Then we didn't recieve our scones that were supposed to come with our meals,we were told that most people don't eat them, so they just don't give them to you unless you explicitly ask. Even though they are clearly on the menu as being included. We did not bother to complain because we did not feel like it was fair to take it out on the waitress, especially since the entire place was being ran by teenagers. Not an adult in site. The grill did not even appear to have been being used? As if they had just been reheating things. The waitress was friendly and polite and prompt, so we still tipped 20 percent. We will not be returning again. Which is sad because we do try to support local family owed restaurants. Do not recommend this one anymore, really needs...

We'd been camping since April 2nd up at yuba, but with the high winds we were experiencing at night ( almost tore our tent down) We decided to pack up and leave, my husband wanted to go to Capitol Reef before we cut our honeymoon short. So we drove down there.
On our way back ( exhausted) we decided to stop here at Mom's Cafe and eat, because we left SO early and were on the road for so long going down and then back again.
The food was amazing! I'd never stopped at a place that was so quiet, calm, and cozy before. ( we probably came right before the usual local dinner rush) but I was surprised at how comforting the food was. ( also the soup of the day that was described as "tomato soup with beef and pasta"...my husband's family calls what he had: goulash. I think it's a traditional Hungarian dish or something like that)
And our server was pretty awesome too! I cannot for the life of me remember his name ( sorry!) But I remember he was very attentive, even with us being the only people in the front part of the Cafe.
Best place in Salina to stop at if your needing something comforting.
Also! Happy birthday to (and I hope I remembered his name right) barney turning 97? Thanks for the cake! My husband loved it!
Oh my God! I forgot about the scones!!!!! Get the scones!!!!!! They are...
