After trying for about 30 mins of trying to reach them on the phone (Never happened). I gave up and decided to drive down to the place to get what I needed. Seeing as some of my friends go here all the time and rave about it, I figured I'd try it out. Well, I got there and it was packed because it was Friday obviously. No big deal so I understand why they had a hard time managing the phone. I still don't see that as an excuse not to answer at all because I called many times and got through many times but no answer by anyone. Yet when I went in to place and order, they had several customers saying they called in their order and were there to pick up. What the heck?! Seriously? Now, I place my order for a half bushel of larges. 20 mins goes by and I see people walking in and out. People picking up orders and leaving and then I notice people around me who just showed up, placed and order and got in within less than 10 mins. Yet, I've been sitting in and outside of the place for over 20 mins now and my crabs are no where to be found. I had 3 people at the counter ask me if I had ordered and I stated that I had ordered a 1/2 bushel of larges. All looked at me confused except the last lady. She went back and checked on them for me but I'm pretty sure the original person who took my order never put them in or they were given to the guy who literally came in 15 mins after I did placed his order and got them almost right away. Here's the worst part about this whole ordeal.
These crabs were very light, had what looked like holes poked through them by a screw driver, and looked more like mediums than larges. I even found what seemed like a dead crab. Which I'm pretty sure most of those crabs were dead before being steamed. I NEVER and I mean NEVER get the runs from eating crabs but I did almost IMMEDIATELY after eating a round of them. I found of all the crabs that maybe 5 were heavy. I cracked them open over and over and each one barely had anything in them. Like someone just sucked all the meat out and left half empty shells. I unfortunately will never buy from here again. Not only was the service terrible but the crabs were nothing to brag about either. ...
Read moreWith over a decade of experience in seafood industry around New England area, I'm happy to give Skip Jacks Seafood and its crew five stars for exceeded my expectations as a seafood market/takeout.
This afternoon, my two kids and I ordered a dozen of large male crabs, a pound of shrimps, and a fish platter. By looking at the cooked crabs, I could tell each was hand selected and alive right before steamed. ALL crabs were very heavy and very sweet, both claws were intacted. They even gave me the baker's dozen. I think that's unnecessary since all crabs were heavy and very fresh; no need to give extra. The shrimp were very sweet. The crew was very friendly, helpful, and polite. My son couldn't decide between fried catfish or tilapia, and the lovely young female staff offered to make him one of each. Despite the store was very busy, and the line was long, the wait was surprisingly short!
We'll definitely come back to Skip Jacks Seafood on our next trip down South. Thank you Skip Jacks Seafood and your crew you making us a delicious dinner and nice experience. We wish you all the best with...
Read moreHow this place got 4.3 stars is beyond me. If I could give this place 0 stars, I most certainly would. Im from out of town and was in search of some good crabs. I did my research and this place popped up as being near me. I saw the reviews and immediately headed that way to order. I was filled with excitement because I knew I had found the perfect spot for some delicious crabs. Once, i got home and opened the bag, my excitement instantly turned to DISAPPOINTMENT and anger. I bought the medium female crabs that are $32 a dozen. They sold me small, no meat having, bad smelling crabs. Those crabs were most definitely OLD. There was even a baby crab thrown in the bag. Don't waste your time going there, most importantly, don't waste your hard earned money!! You will be vety...
