Sylvan Street Grille has been a spot I’ve genuinely enjoyed — great food, good atmosphere, and usually a place where I can relax, grab a bite, and get some work done. But after what happened during my last visit, I honestly don’t know if I’ll be going back. I had been sitting at the bar for a couple of hours, quietly working, eating, and enjoying a drink. I had even interacted with a few people in a friendly, casual way — everything felt totally normal. Then, a man came in and sat down next to me. He started talking, and because I was at the bar, I assumed it was just normal conversation. Unfortunately, that couldn’t have been further from the truth. Out of nowhere, the conversation took a turn. He became aggressive and started screaming at me — loudly and publicly. He pushed his chair back, stood over me, and continued yelling while the entire restaurant watched. It was intimidating, humiliating, and completely unacceptable. I want to be clear: I did not just sit there and take it. I stood up for myself and yelled back. But the situation dragged on far too long before anyone intervened. Eventually, the manager came over and told him to leave — which I completely agreed with. But then I was told that I also needed to leave. That part still doesn’t sit right with me. After everything that happened — being harassed, screamed at, and made to feel unsafe — I was treated as if I had somehow contributed equally to the chaos. I later spoke with the manager and explained everything, and she did tell me I was welcome back. I appreciated her taking the time to listen and also appreciated that she didn’t leave the bartenders to handle the confrontation. But honestly, the whole experience left me shaken and disappointed. I had been nothing but respectful, sitting there for hours with no issues before this man walked in. I was working, eating, and minding my own business. To be told I had to leave after being publicly attacked was incredibly upsetting — and frankly, insulting. This was a horrible experience that completely changed how I feel about this place. It’s hard to want to come back to a restaurant where someone who was verbally assaulted is made to feel like they’re part of the problem. I no longer feel safe or comfortable there, and that breaks my heart. This is not the kind of review I wanted to write — but it’s the truth, and it...
Read moreAs a global traveler, I have seen good and bad services and some level of expectation based on where I am. With a packed parking lot on Black Friday, you expect to wait for a table. Was pleasantly surprised that our 15 minutes wait was only 5. We were seated and quickly greeted by a server to take our drink orders while we reviewed the menu. These are all good signs of a restaurant, but that was where it stopped. The server returned with our drinks and asked if we were ready, explaining we still needed time but wanted an appetizer we ordered and away she went. Considering the size of the menu and options, it could take time as a new person to the restaurant.
The restaurant was out of one of the daily specials and it appears they had been since before 4 PM. I informed our server that I had an allergy prior to ordering. Once our meal was ordered no issues were mentioned, until the food came out and I was informed the kitchen had reservations with one of the items I ordered. They could have come out prior to bring me what I ordered to tell me so I could have changed my order. No apology or anything.
The Chicken Dish I ordered on the server's recommendation was dry and honestly, I could get better at any Mexican restaurant I go to. It was dry and lacked taste. When I mentioned it, the server simply said I will tell the kitchen, but nothing came of it.
Was glad to leave and mentioned to the assumed manager as I walked out will never be back.
A restaurant is measured by 2 items, service and quality. Service started good and crashed here,...
Read moreThe food was very good, and the portions are generous. However our experience was one we'll be talking about forever. Another employee dropped a dish right by our table and it shattered into a hundred pieces it exploded like I've never seen a dish explode before, it rained shattered glass down on my cousin in her hair, in her plate of food, down her shirt (which she discovered after we left the restaurant) shattered glass behind us in the booth which we saw after we got up, it was under the table. I mean I have never seen a dish explode and shatter like this before. They apologized sincerely many times. So they replaced my cousins meal which was good. After the meal the waitress told us the manager wanted to offer the three of us a dessert to share! Then we got the bill and guess what her meal was still on it! If ever a meal should have been comped. We never saw the manager who offered us the dessert. I am a server and yes accidents happen. But to not even see a manager after what happened is poor customer service. The fact that shattered glass rained down on our table and on plates I don't think her meal should have been on the bill. It was a Rueben with onion rings. Luckily where I work our managers are always on the floor checking in with every table. I guess I thought every restaurant put the...
