We had a lot of expectations for this place due to the number of good reviews we saw. I cannot say we were impressed. Obviously, going into a vegan restaurant, you would not expect flavors exactly like what you would have had at a non-vegan one. However, Vietnamese vegan options are so extensive and so good, and frankly I think this place has not been able captured that. The only good dishes that I would suggest you try would be the Hu tieu or Golden noodles. Other than that, the vermicelli dish came out straight up cold, and I wasted my time/money on that rice plate. I love tofu so much that I was disappointed to try out the tofu rice plate here. They couldn’t replicate good vegan egg rolls or spring rolls. The sauce is considered a highlight in most Vietnamese dishes and they could not do that either. Honestly, maybe we expected too much from this place, but you can tell we won’t be coming back at all. Otherwise, I like the atmosphere as well as the large space they have.

The people that work here are fantastic, and I do feel some guilt not absolutely praising them. However, the food just isn’t quite right. It’s cheap, and that’s definitely a plus here. $6 for a sandwich is pretty good, let alone a bahn mi in SLC, and the rest of the menu follows suit (for the most part). The only issue is that their bahn mi isn’t really a bahn mi. I got the BBQ and lemongrass tofu bahn mi and an order of the summer rolls. The summer rolls were pretty good: simple, fresh, and once again, cheap. The bahn mi disappointed. For starters, it’s served on a hoagie roll, without any mayo (vegan mayo exists!), and a distinct lack of any pickled carrots or daikon, cucumber, or jalapeño. The meat substitutions we’re fine, although the lemongrass tofu lacked any real lemongrass flavor. Masquerading a sandwich as a bahn mi doesn’t sit well with me. I guess what I’m saying is that the food here is far from authentic, and you get exactly what you pay for.

All Chay is hands down one of the best hidden gems in Salt Lake City, especially if you're into vegan food. It’s a cozy little spot that's a little tucked away, so it’s easy to miss, but once you find it, you'll keep coming back. The vibe is super casual and welcoming, and the staff is always friendly and happy to explain the menu if you're not familiar with vegan or Vietnamese dishes. Now, the food. They’ve got a wide range of options. The broth in the pho is incredibly flavorful. The texture of their vegan meats are surprisingly close to the real thing. Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity of food you get. It’s the kind of place that caters not only to vegans but to anyone who appreciates good, hearty, and flavorful meals. Definitely worth checking out whether you’re local or just passing through SLC!

First of all, I think it's important to note that I am not a vegan. I do enjoy vegan cuisine on occasion, but I'm not committed to it. I LOVE All Chay. I have never had a bad experience here. Such friendly service. Great, satisfying dishes without making you feel bloated and heavy afterward. Food is always fresh and flavorful. I'm a big fan of their faux meats that I've tried. The bahn mi sandwiches are terrific, but maybe not quite as good as non-vegan ones I've had elsewhere. Their pho is pretty spot on. I finally tried the vegan shrimp, and I thought they were incredible. I really, really liked the lucky lemongrass rice dish! This is a vegan restaurant that I wouldn't have to "apologize" for taking my meat eating friends to. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but I've loved everything I've tried.

I'm not a vegan. I don't know what right, spell, potion, or incantation one must recite to be one of those... Yet, this place does have vegan offerings. Folks who are in the know on vegan protocol will have to judge that. I'll stick with taste, quality, service, and price. It was all great. When you do finally get here go ahead and meander up to the counter and order your goodies. No need to wait to be seated. I got the pho and it was great. My wife even liked it and she isn't a pho fiend like me. There are some egg rolls on here I can't wait to get back and try. Nothing like the ones in the pic. Once you've eaten your goodies please make sure you clean up after yourself. They have dish buckets by the water coolers in the center of the room. Dump your food and plan your next trip back.

Al chay has been a favorite of mine for years! Which is why it breaks my heart to give a review like this. Today I ordered take out for lunch which included a Mongolian noodle salad, and a spicy lemongrass tofu rice dish. I think that I accidentally induced some confusion by asking for the spicy lemongrass tofu with extra veggies instead of tofu. I was shocked when I came to pick it up and saw $13 on my receipt for lemongrass tofu rice! When I asked about the high price, she said menu prices had changed, even though every other item on the receipt matched the menu prices.. I wouldn’t have had much issue with the whole situation until I opened the takeout container to find this. Hardly acceptable. Luckily they were very accommodating about the situation and were able to solve it
