My fiance and I have been going here since we started eating plant based (3 years) and we always enjoyed the food. I am sad to say that the past few times we have been disappointed. We got the teriyaki banh mi a few weeks ago, and they didn't add the faux meat, which is where most of the flavor is! Today, we got takeout and it was the most disappointing meal we've had. Everything tasted entirely different (and not in a good way). We ordered 2 of the pho with extra veggies and didn't get the extra veggies. We ordered the all chay egg rolls which were decent, but again, entirely different from the amazing flavor they normally have. We had 2 orders of Thai tea w/popping boba and it was EXTREMELY watered down and we couldn't even taste the tea. The only good part of the Thai tea was the popping boba. My fiance also had an All Chay banh mi and the bread was extremely difficult to eat; almost a chewy, rubbery texture. He didn't end up finishing his pho because it didn't taste good and his stomach really started hurting. I'm leaving a rating of 2 stars instead of 1 because they have great customer service. However, we were very disappointed about the meal and our most recent experiences. They have also increased the pricing of everything, so our meal today was almost $50 and honestly wasn't worth one cent. I hate to leave such a harsh rating, but we frequently eat here (this used to be our favorite restaurant!) and when we don't get everything we pay for and the flavor has really been lacking, I will speak up. I can honestly say that we probably won't be back for a while because it doesn't taste like love is being poured into the food, if you know what I mean. We just hope that if we do decide to come back in the future, that our experience won't be...
Read moreDon't we all try to go vegan at some point? Maybe it's just me, but my undying love of health documentaries has sent me down the vegan path multiple times. After several weeks of eating fries and rice (too lazy to cook delicious vegan meals) I was beginning to feel the tingling in my fingers for some chicken and steak. Right as I was about to throw in the towel, a friend suggested I try All Chay. I must admit, I have tried vegan asian dishes before and they are... less than satisfactory (they are very gross). I had very low expectations, but boy did the food blow me away. I ordered the "beef" pho and ocean seafood dish. I hadn't had decent food in a long time (again, too lazy to cook, vegans actually have great food). The pho broth was delicious, it did not taste artificial. IN FACT I would say it was one of the best pho broths i've had in Salt Lake. The fake shrimp was also absolutely delicious. The pairing of the rice with the shrimp really sealed the deal for me. I wanted to cry, the food was so good and I was living out my dreams of being the successful vegan I have always wanted to be. But alas, it was not to be. The location is too far from where I am to do pick up every day and my cravings...
Read moreWe had a lot of expectations for this place due to the number of good reviews we saw. I cannot say we were impressed.
Obviously, going into a vegan restaurant, you would not expect flavors exactly like what you would have had at a non-vegan one. However, Vietnamese vegan options are so extensive and so good, and frankly I think this place has not been able captured that. The only good dishes that I would suggest you try would be the Hu tieu or Golden noodles. Other than that, the vermicelli dish came out straight up cold, and I wasted my time/money on that rice plate. I love tofu so much that I was disappointed to try out the tofu rice plate here. They couldn’t replicate good vegan egg rolls or spring rolls. The sauce is considered a highlight in most Vietnamese dishes and they could not do that either.
Honestly, maybe we expected too much from this place, but you can tell we won’t be coming back at all. Otherwise, I like the atmosphere as well as the large...
