It's a Mexican bakery - if you've never been in one (and shame on you if you haven't!), you walk in, grab a cafeteria tray and a pair of tongs, and go crazy. There's also a small grocery section though I've not availed myself of that yet, do they have what look like gelatin fruit cups in a number of flavors, some really remarkable cheeses, and more ornate pastries than in the glass cabinets. I went for the regular pastries, which were amazing; in addition to all the usual, they have thick slices of pound cake with chocolate icing that are moist and incredible. My favorite however is the bread, those big honkin football-shaped loaves that they bring out in metal "cupboards" and when you open them and smell all that fresh bread, your world is just set to rights. When I first arrived, I could not find the bread which I knew would be there, and one of the patrons was able to point me in the right direction, as fresh bread was being rolled out. My complaint is the service from the staff. The older woman at the counter does not speak English (though that's not really the problem) nor does she understand how to make change (which is a problem). She totaled my order and showed me the calculator (they don't have a cash register): $3.86. I handed her $5.11, and she simply glared at me and continued to shake the calculator at me. Change would have been $1.25, simple math but I couldn't show her that because I had left my phone on the charger in the car. I took back the 11 cents and wound up with a bunch of pennies I did not need and a lot of nasty looks. So go for the baked goods, but for the love of all it's holy, take...
Read moreWe have been to bakeries all over the mid west and Flores Bakery is by far the best hispanic bakery we have found thus far. I have a serious affection for cream filled empinadas, which are difficult to find at most hispanic bakeries and so I was quite pleased to find them at Flores Bakery. We visited the bakery later in the evening and they had no cream filled empinadas on their shelves so they went in the back and brought out their fresh made goods. I don't know if they were for another order but they were so kind and the customer service was amazing. I will most definitely be going here again and will recommend this establishement to all of our out of town company. I am in fact, visiting Flores Bakery in the morning to pick up a few boxes to gift to...
Read moreThe lady dispatching the bread was very rude. She was basically giving people whatever she wanted and when the people would tell her that wasn’t what they had asked for she was very unprofessional and would answer rudely stating that it was what they had asked for and put it back angrily. She did this with at least 3 people in the line and even had the audacity to call the attention of a customer and yell at them in front of everyone because she had gotten her order wrong and the lady corrected her. Another worker even told her she was wrong for doing that and she just ignored her, didn’t even apologize and continued to take orders in a bad mood. The customers were not rude to her in any type of way for her to have acted...
