The problem with this restaurant is literally everything but the flavors.
I write this review after struggling with how to address the issues I've experienced. I tried to speak to the owner as I experienced the latest issue but he flat out told me that "I'm too busy to talk to you". I am a manager and weekly we order lunch for our team. We rotate different restaurants and allow our group to pick places based on their mood for the week. After the latest issue with PV Deli we have removed them as an option all together.
The prices are very, very, very high. $2.50 for a bottle of water is a perfect example. Typically we would not have issues paying higher prices if the orders went smoothly....but that's never happened. We have placed 5 or 6 orders over the last several months and we've had some kind of issue on every single order.
Their customer service is not worth it. The employees facial expressions and body language make it clear that they don't really want to be working. I don't say this lightly but their employees need serious training on how to interact with customers. The girl who is on the cash register is just rude and borderline mean. What sets the tone for me is the "chef" owner is so arrogant that he put his name in the name of the business. Like saying Tesla by Engineer Elon Musk™.
We always have to wait. 10 min for a single sandwich or you could wait 30 min. Since the owner has some God complex and his staff basically think they walk on water...there is no urgency. I feel there is no real respect for the customer.
My colleague went to "PV Deli Dallas" that they just permanently closed and he told me he waited over 45 min for his order and when he told the manager on duty he needed a refund because he needed to get back to work and couldn't wait any longer the manager said they didn't do refunds and he could only have a gift card. My colleague just left and never went back.
I ordered lunch for my office group last week. I suggested every place in town other than PV, but one of my employees just had a birthday and she wanted PV Deli so that is what we settled on. I went to pick it up I was told that they checked the bags and everything was in there and good to go. A quick scan of the bags showed that there were several items missing (salad, drinks, sandwiches). Initially I was told the items were in another bag but then I heard the kitchen yelling and it was clear that the items were never made. Because I got there right at noon I had to wait nearly 20min for them to fix what they should have gotten right the first time. I would assume our incorrect order would go to the front of the line in order for them to correct? Multiple employees rolled their eyes because I wasn't happy with my experience. Good thing the food they got correct was now cold and the stuff they got wrong was warm when I got back in the office.
Until PV Deli works these issues out they are no longer an option for my group on catering days. I sincerely hope they can fix the many issues they have because I do know that some people like this place but there are so many other places in San Angelo that offer better food and have a better experience and I think that is just as important as flavor. The staff needs to be more inviting and the owner needs to be humble and less interested in his clear attempt to self promote his name. If they can do those things then things may be different but I don't see that changing any time soon. Perhaps the failed location in Dallas will force change but only...
Read moreStopped by PV Deli, eager to support a local business and try one of their subs. I’m all for extravagant creations, but I was in the mood for something a bit simpler. So, I kindly asked the cashier if it was okay to swap a few ingredients – a little less meat, a little more of what I actually like – and he said, “Of course!” Great. Off to a promising start.
As my sub (chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, pesto, onion) was being finished, they kindly double-checked if I wanted onions. I said yes, and, seeing some tempting pickles, politely asked if I could add one as well. That’s when the tone shifted.
An elderly man in the back seized the moment to put me in my place. He announced to the whole shop that I was “the most difficult customer of all time” and that it was a “good thing” I came in during the morning so they could “get their most difficult customer out of the way.” He scolded me, saying that my order is making his and his workers lives so much harder.
As I stood there at a loss for words, he added, “Don’t take anything I say too seriously, sweetheart. They call me the Sandwich Nazi for a reason.”
I awkwardly replied, “Next time, I’ll just make my sandwich at home,” hoping that would end it. But no – he continued, reminiscing about his time at my workplace, adding another layer of awkwardness to an already surreal situation.
So, to the team at PV Deli, I genuinely wish you well. I love supporting local businesses – just not ones where I end up as the unwilling participant in a condescending comedy routine. And as for that elderly gentleman, I truly hope he’s doing okay. I’d hate to think a simple pickle request could rattle someone that much. I hope he treats his coworkers with a lot more respect...
Read moreThis place has amazing sandwiches. I have been eating here since high school when they were in the old Peasent Village Restaurant building. However, they have been steadily increasing their prices at their San Angelo location while also reducing the sizes of their sandwiches.
Previously, you would get a massive sandwich for $8. Now, a smaller sized sandwich will cost you $11-$13. The quality of the food is still great, but I cannot pay this much money for a smaller sandwich. If the sizes were reduced and prices stayed the same, or if sizes remained the same and prices increased that would be fine, but they are cutting corners on both ends.
In addition to the sandwiches, the chips and drinks are also greatly overpriced, more than you would pay at a restaurant. A single serving bag of chips costs $2 and a single drink costs $2.50. So if you wanted to grab a full lunch from here, it would come out to about $17 per person. Like I said before, the sandwiches are amazing, but there's an upper limit to the price I'm willing to pay for a sandwich and chips.
If there was some kind of combo deal I would even be willing to pay $10-$12 for a great sandwich, chips, and a drink. Anytime I have been (prior to their most recent price increase), I would only ever get a sandwich with no drink or chips due to the prices. Now with the sandwiches being even more expensive, I can no longer justify buying a sandwich by itself.
Please fix your pricing at this location. I heard the Dallas location included chips or a drink with the purchase of a sandwich. Why is this not the same in San Angelo? Paying the equivalent of a mid-range restaurant meal for a very small, to-go sandwich shop is not something many people are...
