4.5 Stars! Based on the type of place it is...diner-like. Hubby & I both had the Brisket platter. His with beans and fries, mine with fried okra and potato salad. We split a peach cobbler because they had no banana pudding. Servings of all were generous. Be sure to ask for extra sauce.
In town visiting my son who is stationed at Goodfellow AFB. Was looking for some brisket and had searched around and found RJ's as my place to go. It was 4:30 and they were to close at 5. When I arrived they were out of brisket; wow what a disappointment. However, the gentleman in the kitchen area told me they still had some brisket at their other location. I wasn't familiar with the area and was looking to sit down and eat with the family. I told him I came all the way from Florida looking for brisket. The gentleman from the kitchen came out to the counter and called the other store asking how much brisket they had left. He then drove over to the other location and got the brisket just for us. The service he provided was incredible and far beyond what I would have expected. When the food was delivered, I again was very surprised. The portions were large, but better yet, the food was just outstanding. It was the best brisket I had ever eaten. The ribs were awesome, the beans and potato salad were delicious as well. If I lived in San Angelo, there would be no reason to go anywhere else for BBQ. I never got the gentleman's name, I do believe he was the owner though. Thank you very much for the outstanding customer service and the best barbecue. Keep it up, you...
Read moreOne of the major bbq players in this town and I see why. Dang good BBQ across the board of their simple basic menu of goods. Everything we had was amazing. Service was fast just before the normal 6pm dinner rush started coming in and it came strong! We got lucky coming in at 5. Beat the masses. The chicken impressed me most with it's super smokey but moist outcome. The brisket was a close 2nd place being flavorful and tender. Ribs we're not be overlooked either. Not a big sausage guy so those just never impress me much anywhere.
Potato salad, coleslaw and beans all legit sides. The smokey tangy BBQ sauce is solid as well.
Roman the man behind it all who served us was a class act guy and super friendly dude. Gave me all the inside details on the biz and the food. 10 hours of smoked mesquite chips goes into that brisket!
In biz since 2002 and still putting smiles on locals...
