Babylon Bakery — Restaurant in San Antonio

I travel from outside of San Antonio to buy bakery goods for my husband. There were a few times in which the bakery was not open. At first, I thought it had closed down! But I later learned from other patrons that the owner closed early or whenever he was not in the mood to work! I was shocked because I spent money on gas to come here. Gas costs are going up and I find it very inconsiderate when a business does not have the decency to respect its customer's money or time. Yes, the baked goods are delicious but they are not worth the cost of gasoline or time. I'm sad since the Iraqi community is growing in San Antonio and having access to their foods is a special treat. I'm afraid if this owner continues his inconsistent work hours and hours of business operations this place like so many other Iraqi businesses, will close down in the near future. However, as mentioned before the Iraqi community is growing so I'm sure there will be another baker who will take the place of Babylon Bakery and open a bakery and sell the delightful treats of Iraq. Until then, I will continue to buy samoon and lahmagen (meat pie) from Ali Baba grocery. Ali Baba is not authentic per say, but they are consistent with their hours of operation and respect their customers enough to let them know if and when they will be closed which is usually only on holidays.

I had to do some laundry, so stopping off here was just a quick little surprise. They are SO polite and kind, they answered the silly questions I had and I couldn't help but stick to what I knew at first. Their Baklava was the best I have EVER had in San Antonio hands down - they also suggested another sweet that was very similar but cylindrical( I don't want to butcher the name!) - And I can't be more happier with that suggestion! Everything looked so good and they have such a CUTE shop. I can't wait to stumble in there again next time and try more things. Their savories were so tempting! Next visit for sure.

I've been wanting to try this bakery for a while and thankfully dropped in today. The freshly made Iraqi bread is delicious! You can slice and stuff it with your favorite sandwich fillings or eat it with butter like I did. So yummy! I also tried the cheese and thyme pie which is very tasty. So many things I wanted to try but that is what a return visit is for. The gentleman baking the bread was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a gem of a...
