While the place was rated very highly (4.8 stars on Google), I find it average at best. The two skewer dish that I ordered, one ground meat and one chunks of chicken (tikka) over or with rice, lacked flavor in the meat. You can definitely taste the over-the-charcoal cooking & preparation, but the meat itself lacked flavor. It wasn't just bland, that somewhat gamey meat flavor came through (know what I mean?). And the chicken, although well prepared, was meh. The side of rice was interesting. I had upgraded it to biryani rice, which this was not. An argument could be made that this is an Iraqi-biryani, but that's a concept I'm not familiar with. It was flavorfully good regardless of what it was called. Had I not requested the side of garlic, and later some pickles (although as an "Iraqi place," they didn't know "turshi."), the only sauce/liquid you got was from the grilled half tomato; which was surprisingly not charred. Again, the rice aside, very bland. Requesting Iraqi tea was probably the best judgment call I made during this visit. The cardamom black tea was good. If you tell them you were fasting (this visit was during Ramadan), right when you were seated, they served you one date and a choice of either lentil or vegetable soup. I got the lentil one. I guess it was their take on Iraqi lentil soup. It was good. Different. But good. The mint lemonade smoothie was not bad, but not worth the price. I should have passed on it The service was done by two teenagers or very young adults. Considering that it was a full house right after iftaar (breaking of the fest) time, their hustle was commendable. Slightly above average service, but very personable if you actually talk to them as individuals; which was an opportunity I had after the rush.

They are owned by the same people that own Shisha Café (which also offers superb food, btw, and is right next door). The food choices seem the same, but this place is a bit more upscale. Not overly fancy or expensive, but it just has a newish vibe and décor to it. For the appetizer, we ordered Arayees ($6.99). It’s flame grilled pita bread filled with ground meat and spices. The spices they seasoned it with were the perfect balance and gave it a wonderful taste. They had just a *hint* of spiciness to them. But, since they are supposed to be flame grilled, I expected them to be a little toasty and crisp. Instead, they were a little on the soft/soggy side. Again, very tasty, just know what you are getting into. The Beef Tika ($17.99) was the best item ordered that day. I’m not sure what cut of meat it was, but these “marinated beef medallions” as described on the menu were perfectly cooked, very tender, and the marinade they used was like OMG! It was served with grilled tomato, onions, and rice on the side. The second entrée was the Mixed Kebab Plate ($11.99) with byrani rice. This plate includes one ground chicken skewer, and one ground beef skewer. The chicken skewer had awesome seasoning, but the beef skewer was lacking in seasoning. The ground beef skewer didn’t have a whole lot of flavor. It really reminded me of bland meatballs. The service was great, the place is very clean, modern, and almost on the chic side of things. I was happy enough with the service and the Beef Tika, so I will keep them at four stars.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Server Maha at Kabobchi Grill. This establishment stands out not only for its outstanding food but also for its exceptional service. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff is attentive and genuinely friendly, making you feel right at home. They are knowledgeable about the menu and are eager to recommend dishes that suit your taste preferences. Now, let’s talk about the food! The kabobs are simply exquisite—perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection, they are bursting with flavor. Each bite is a testament to the chef's skill and commitment to quality. The sides, from fresh salads to aromatic rice, complement the main dishes beautifully, enhancing the overall dining experience. In addition to the delicious food, the ambiance of Kabobchi Grill is lively yet comfortable, making it ideal for both casual gatherings and special occasions. Whether you're a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine or trying it for the first time, Server Maha at Kabobchi Grill is sure to impress. In summary, with its combination of superb service and mouthwatering dishes, Server Maha at Kabobchi Grill has quickly become a favorite dining destination. Don’t miss the opportunity to indulge in this culinary gem!

As an edit for my previous review! The service is horrible and extremely irrespecutful! Tonight, i ordered chicken Milanese for my children and it was very bad! The chicken was extremely bad quality to an extent it was hardly cut by the knife! We called the server and she took back the plate! After few minutes, someone from the kitchen came out with the plate and asking whats wrong with the plate! We explained the situation and he was like checking the chicken with his hands and took the plate back. After 15 or 20 minutes, it was the shock! He got the same plate, they just cut the chicken to pieces and put it in the fryer and got it back to us and ran away! It was the worst experience ever! I went to speak to Khaled the manager! He was busy at the kitchen, i asked our server Angela if she can call Khaled for me and she came back saying he is busy and he will come to me at the table! After waiting for 10 or 15 minutes! He came out, talking to all the tables in the restaurant ignoring my table although he knows that there is an issue at my table! Eventually, he came asking whats wrong! My wife showed him the plate saying i am speechless, i just need your comment on this plate! He is like, what wrong about it?! I did it myself,etc.. And it ended up with irrespecutful conversation from his side as if he is doing us a favor for redoing the plate! We decided since this is the way we were treated, i will cancel my order and my wife’s order which did not come yet plus the plate that he was going to remake! I went to Angela our server! Please cancel our orders and we need the check for whatever we got! She got the wrong receipt and we were like this receipt is not right since we got lamb chops not shawerma sandwiches! She took the receipt and came back after 10 minutes with the correct receipt however she was putting the orders that we did not get on the table! We were like should we pay for something that we did not get!!! She went back to correct the receipt with her manager and she came to the table, throwing the check out and left! the receipt this time was including the plate that was bad which we did not take at all however, we decided to pay whatever the receipt is for at the register cause we wanted to leave this place! And she took the credit card in a very rude way, charging us! Throwing the card back! Putting tips for herself! Behaving bad! Saying words cannot be said to a customer at all! And then just leaving! We were even asking another waiter to get our credit card from the floor back there! I am really disappointed from the way we were treated tonight and I got shocked from how this server named Angela was behaving! I wish i could reach the owner and tell him how his people are treating his customers who come every weekend to his restaurant to eat there! He can check the videos for the restaurant cameras and watch how he is losing business by this irrespecutful treatment and bad manners of the people working even who is supposed to be a manager! all this scenario happened tonight between 9:05 pm...

We had a horrible experience today. We used to go to this place at least once if not twice every week. However, after what happened today we will never go there again and I will make sure to let everyone know how they treat their customers. One of the plates we ordered was Chicken Milanese. It is supposed to be fried chicken breast and it comes in two whole pieces. When the chicken came and I tried to cut the first piece with the knife, it was very hard to cut and then by trying a piece it wasn't chewy and rubbery. I called our server Angela and told her that this chicken is bad. She takes it back to the kitchen and then someone comes back with the same plate and asks what's wrong so I explain to him that it tastes very weird and is hard as if there is some skin or something in it. It is probably old and reheated or something, I don't know. He touches it by his hand to check it out so you would expect after he did that, he will throw it away and definitely get us a new plate (restaurant hygiene) but to my surprise here is what happened: he takes it back and after a little bit, they bring it back cut into small pieces ( whatever was left from it) and over-cooked in the oven to the point that was almost burnt. I didn't say a thing and I asked to speak to the manager Mr. Khaled who we see every time and we usually call and reserve table, etc. When Mr. Khaled came to the table, i asked him what is this? is this acceptable for you? He replies with yes, I did it. You were complaining it wasn't cooked enough (which I never said) so I cooked it more for you...Really? Are you supposed to change the plate and cut it and burn it and then serve it back to the customer? I was really upset at this point. I asked again if he thinks it is okay. This was the plate for my 5 years old twins... Do you think they can eat this hard, burned chicken. He then said okay what do you want? another plate? He was treating me as if he is making me a favor. I pay for this food and I expect to receive the service I pay for. Anyways he went back to do a new plate and at this time I was really upset and I didn't want to stay in the restaurant so I asked the server to cancel the plate and get the check for the rest of the food that we got. The waiter Angela went back and forth three times getting us wrong receipts with stuff that we didn't even order or with the food that never came to the table. They made us pay for the plate that was bad plus 15% tips. TIPS FOR BEING MISTREATED! WOW!! Angela throw the check in my face and even my card fell from it and she just left us and went to the kitchen and on her way she pointed her finger on us! If you are looking for place to be respected then please don't go there. Imagine all what I said happened to us and we are LOYAL CUSTOMERS THAT GO EVERY WEEK then what would happen to other people. I am very disappointed and I will put my review in every...

Update & Response to Owner July 9th - I'm not sure who you're referring to but I didn't bring an outside drink and no one asked me anything in regards to a drink or even talked to me until I went to the checkout. My experience is below and my conclusion is based on the lack of service I received.

Today my co-worker who I introduced to your restaurant really wanted to have the chicken Tikka so I said okay let's go just hopefully we get good server. halea was there. Sorry I probably misspelled that. But I was excited and knew I'd have a great experience. Based on that I'm updating my review to 3 stars..

I hope instead of ownership getting defensive, you'd value feedback from customers as an opportunity to grow, you're doing alot of great things but your staff isn't all trained the same.

So here is my experience.. I'd consider myself a regular here. I come almost everyday after work.

I work and stay close by, I'm not from San Antonio But I work in town so come often.

The shisha is mostly great on most days. Charcoal guys are on top of making sure it is good.

The food, my favorite is the chicken Tikka plate and I liked the dolmas. I also ordered the chicken and beef kabab plates but wasn't as impressed with those.

The service! Well that's why I had to give it a 3 star rating. It depends a lot on who you get. The lady, got her name Halea, she's amazing and super attentive. I also have had the blonde lady help me and she was great.

Today I unfortunately had the worst service, my waiter Jay, who I believe has helped me a couple of times there. Always seems to be in a rush, doesn't really check back to see if I need anything else.

Today from the moment I arrived, he dropped off the menu and wanted to rush off, I said sir I'm ready to order. I had already been sitting for a while by the time he came.

After he took my hookah order, he didn't check on me not even once. To pay my bill I had to go to the front.

Super disappointing especially for a regular to be treated this way. Guess I need a new spot now. Back to...
