I recently visited Dallah Mediterranean Restaurant in San Antonio on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in March, and I had a great experience! We arrived around 1:30 p.m., and the restaurant, which is located at a corner spot in a shopping center, had a nice presence. It wasn’t overly crowded, and the weather was perfect, so we opted to sit outside. The seating area was spacious, and it was especially nice to be near the calming sound of the water fountain.
Our server greeted us promptly and was friendly and engaging. As it was my first time at the restaurant, I had a few questions about the menu, and he was more than happy to help.
For my meal, I ordered the combination kabob plate, which came with both a chicken and beef kabob, as well as a Greek salad. My friend went with the chicken kabob plate, the saffron rice and we had the chickpea falafel with a delicious yogurt garlic sauce as an appetizer. The food arrived quickly, hot, and beautifully presented.
The falafel was a standout – it was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and reminded me of a hush puppy in texture. The beef kabob was perfectly cooked to my liking and packed with flavor. However, the chicken kabob, while flavorful, was unfortunately overcooked and dry, which was a bit of a disappointment.
One of the highlights was definitely the naan bread – it was fantastic! I could have made a whole meal out of it with just a little butter.
The cost was between $20 and $30 per person, which felt fair for the quality of food and experience. Overall, it was a great visit, and I would definitely recommend Dallah Mediterranean Restaurant. I’m looking forward to giving the chicken kabobs another try, as I’m hopeful that the chicken kabobs was just a one-off! The rest of the visit and food...
Read moreI thought my order would be around $15. I always get the same thing at every Mediterranean place, and this time I just added an extra side. I was really craving Mediterranean food — I usually go to Pasha or Mimi and Dimi’s when that craving hits. But this new spot is close by, so I decided to give it a try.
When I got there, the total came out to $25. I asked why it was an extra $5 for two sides when the meal already includes one.
The red-haired guy at the register just said, “That’s the cost.” I explained again that the meal comes with a side, so why was I being charged for two? A lady nearby was nice enough to say my order would be ready soon.
As I went to sit down, the guy started mumbling under his breath about it being two sides. I was just asking a simple question about pricing. It’s incredibly disrespectful for someone to talk under their breath after a customer walks away, as if the conversation wasn’t already over. On top of that, the restaurant was empty — there was no reason for that attitude over a basic question. Someone else might have turned around and confronted him on the spot. At that point, I had already decided I wouldn’t be coming back. I’ve never in my life paid $25 for some chicken shawarma.
It’s a shame how bad service can keep you from returning somewhere, even when the food is great. Anyway, I got home and ate — the portion was huge and...
Read moreI went to Dallah on the recommendation of my son and his girlfriend who discovered this Mediterranean treasure tucked in an obscure corner of a commercial strip around the corner of Babcock and Eckhert. It is now my favorite place to go for a good, satisfying meal with friends and visitors to the city. The dining room is quiet, elegantly decorated, with overt and subtle hints of the culture. They also have a huge patio for those who prefer to dine al fresco. The owner, Sam, is gracious and friendly. He reminds me of an uncle who welcomes you to his home with a huge smile and a hearty Hello. He often makes rounds to chat with patrons and ensure that nothing is amiss. The service is prompt and the waitstaff always attentive and eager to accommodate. The food is a flavorful and expertly seasoned, a tasty sensation that wakes up your taste buds with an "ooh, this is gonna be good" feeling. My favorite meal is the Kebab Combination, a skewer each of juicy chicken (Joojeh) and tender beef (Chenjeh) served with rice and washed down with their rosewater tea. It never fails to make my tummy do a happy dance inside. Note: A loved one who was hospitalized and very recently recovered from Covid knew his sense of taste has returned when we brought him his favorite meal from Dallah. What...
