I live near Hildebrand so this is my go to location for sweetbread (pan dulce). They don't always have a full selection these days in the afternoon on Sunday, which I guess is the best way to ensure that you don't carry old goods to the next day, but it still means I can't necessarily get an my favorites later in the day.
That's but a big deal, by the way, because everyone they have really is good. Just with mentioning in case you are only after chocolate cake conchas or some other specific sweetbread that somebody else beat you to. I think their conchas are soft and light, their empanadas are perfect with a cup of pecan coffee in the morning, and their polvorones, cuernos and chamucos are some of the best around! Better prices and product than my beloved HEB around the corner (sorry, HEB. I still love you!) And better than other bakeries (panaderias) in the area. Si quieren pan dulce delicioso y no tan caro, deben que visitar a mi panaderia favorita! Esta panaderia es mejor que la michoacana, la popular, y muchas mas entre 5...
Read moreI'm new to the neighborhood & was recently recommend this bakery by a local resident, who has lived in the area for over 30yrs. Rating it solely on the variety of pasiteres 😍 I love that they open early and close late because I can stop by at 7pm or after my morning runs 7am. Apparently they have warm pastries from the oven at 6am when they open. I went once on a Saturday and there was line for their weekend special menudo. There are a few bilingual workers. I believe is predominantly spanish speaking business. The workers wear their masks which I appreciate. It is NOT a self serviced bakery, which I don't mind it. I saw that they have Valentine's theme cookies, cupcakes, and pink pastries. My favorite are the strawberry fillings. I love the conchas; pretty soft! Oddly enough they don't sell pink conchas ( I've seen brown, yellow, and white conchas). Truly recommend this location. Inside and outside is a bit run down, there's bars on the door but I'm a native Harlem gurl so this is...
Read moreFirst off, which is my greatest concern, is that they provide utensils for the customers to select their items from the trays but when I set them on the counter to pay for them the cashier TOUCHED MY BREAD WITH HER BARE HANDS! And this is while she's ringing up the items. Touching the keys and then touching my bread. I don't care how clean your hands are you don't do this. It's disgusting. You use tissue or put some gloves on. Second the bread is just not good. I selected 2 pieces of different kinds of cake and they were rock hard on the outside. By this time I had already been sick to my stomach from the manhandling of my bread. This didn't help. Every other item I selected tasted as if I had gone to a greasy, dirty gas station to purchase bread. I don't know where all these reviews are coming from but I'm guessing you might not know what a good panaderia is supposed to be. Never...
