I always like to say: In just about every backstreet of San Antonio you’ll find the best food in town. Well, this holds true for El Burrito Tapatio. The food is always consistently great, the waitresses are always awesome—including one young guy that was my waiter a couple times—and all of them put up with me butchering the Spanish language, plus there’s always good booths to sit at.
I have a lot of favorites dishes there. One, that has great value to me, is the Jalisco Burrito (w/fajita). It’s smothered with an enchilada-like gravy sauce and cheddar that stretches farther than any cheese I’ve ever attempted to eat. For $6 and some change there’s no point in me eating anything more when I’m hungry. I generally want to take a nap right after—however, tonight I went to the Riverwalk; but I digress.
My friend always orders the same thing: torta with asada and a cheese quesadilla on corn. She says the tortas there are better than any other place she’s been to in town, it’s safe to say we’ve had tortas at more than half a dozen other places.
I really like this place. There’s sort of a heart-warming factor to it. I love the people, it’s very authentic, the food is great (menudo is awesome, by the way), the patrons are great—especially during karaoke—and it’s clean.
West Avenue, a great backstreet. El Burrito Tapatio. Give it a try. When the locals go there, you...
Read moreALERTA !!!!AVISO!!!! I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THIS RESTAURANT FOR OVER 15 YEARS… I HADNT BEEN IN A LONG WHILE CAUSE I DONT LIVE IN THE AREA ANYMORE. I WALKED IN FOR DINNER LAST NIGHT AND LEFT IN SHOCK AT WHAT I EXPERIENCED. THE WAITRESS ALONG WITH THE CASHIER TRIED ROBBING ME. MY SON AND I ORDERED 2 PINEAPPLE DRINKS AND IT WASNT TO OUR LIKING SO WE ASKED TO CHANGE IT FOR A SWEET TEA. THE DRINKS CAME IN A ”TO-GO” CUP. THE WAITRESS TOLD ME SHE WAS GOING TO TAKE OUR PINEAPPLE TO-GO CUPS SO WE WONT HAVE SO MANY CUPS AT OUR TABLE. SHE BROUGHT US OUR TEAS IN THE SAME “TO-GO” CUPS, SHE RINSED THEM OUT, THE CUPS WERE SOAKED. WELL SHE CHARGED US FOR “2 PINEAPPLE DRINKS ($3.99 EACH), 4 TO-GO CUPS (.50/EACH), AND TWO $1.57 “SERVICE CHARGE FEES”…. SHE HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL THE CASHIER THAT WE DRANK ALL THE PINEAPPLE DRINKS THATS WHY WE WERE CHARGED FOR THEM. I WAS IN UTTER SHOCK BECAUSE NOW SHES ACCUSING US OF LYING. IF WE DRANK THE PINEAPPLE WE WOULD'VE GLADLY PAID AND WHATS EVEN WORSE IF SHE HAD BEEN A GREAT WAITRESS SHE WOULD’VE GOTTEN A GREAT TIP. I LOVE TIPPING BUT NOT WAITRESSES LIKE HER. SHE NEEDS TO FIND ANOTHER JOB BECAUSE SHE IS HINDERING THE RESTAURANTS BUSINESS. CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS YALL! THAT WAITRESS AND CASHIER ARE STRAIGHT UP THIEVES! IF THE WAITRESS WAS OUTRIGHT-FULLY DOING HER JOB SHE WOULDN'T HAVE...

The beef puffy tacos are absolutely incredible perfectly crispy on the outside, yet light and airy, packed with flavorful, well-seasoned beef. Each bite has that perfect balance of crunch and tenderness, making them easily some of the best puffy tacos I’ve ever had.
And let’s talk about the queso smooth, creamy, and packed with just the right amount of spice and flavor. It’s the kind of queso you can’t stop dipping into, making it a must-order every time.
Beyond the food, the service here is top-notch. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and even during busy times, they keep things moving efficiently. My order came out fast, fresh, and exactly as expected, which is always a plus.
Overall, El Burrito Tapatio on West Avenue delivers on all fronts—amazing food, great service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Whether you're craving puffy tacos, queso, or just a solid Tex-Mex experience, this spot is...
