"Archbishop, I wanted to come in and tell you I've renewed my faith."
"Wait, aren't you the same guy who came in talking about arepas?"
"Yes, but I have to confess to you something you would be proud of, and I've come to recognize that, El Pastor Es Mi Señor."
"Blessed are those who's acknowledge our--"
"The thing is, I've never been to a place where people are so happy, and they rejoice in the environment, and they remember fondly of their homes in CDMX."
"Oh, es de Mexico el pastor?"
"Bueno, pastor is from Lebanon, but that besides the point."
"What an encouraging sign of a Pastor doing community work-"
"I almost go there weekly now. Last time I was there, I had a volcán and el orden de tacos but Ive had everything pretty much."
"Oh, so he runs a soup kitchen?"
"The pastor comes straight from el trompo, none of that precut stuff. Nicely charred and plated immediately with the recommended salsas, the pastor tacos are a dream. The first time I had them I thanked God for such an amazing taco."
"We should give thanks for all our bless--"
"The pastor, the pineapple, and the combo of salsas add such a flavor explosion. Personally, I prefer the red salsa on the pastor, it gives the right amount of bounce y calor. The green sauce is a favorite of mine on the sirloin and pairs well. Which reminds me, they have two trompos, one al pastor and one with sirloin. I live both of them!"
"My son, are you talking about the clergy? This almost sounds like a restaurant review for --"
"You know El Pastor was featured on Netflix?"
"Oh, they are featuring ministries! How delightful!"
"Yes, and Texas Monthly's José Ralat said El Pastor is the best place to go--"
"Really?!?!"
"-- for the best al pastor tacos. Juicy, fresh, and well prepared, the two trompos are always hittin and once they run out, they are done. But the last time I was there I had the alambre, and it's a miracle how they prepare everything father, I--"
"A miracle? Really? Now I know you're--"
"Blessed! I know I'm blessed father because the salsas are really good as well, and El Pastor--"
"Well, that's good son, but can you confirm your are talking about an actual person and not--"
"I know I'm blessed because I was one of the first people to try their latest creation, the Ramen Al Pastor, and let me tell you... ooooooooh-weeeeeee, it was incredible. The pastor adds heft with the noodles, while the cuts of pineapple mixed with the savory, salty ramen flavor mix is a balanced take on a current trend. It explodes with flavor and is a great addition to an already stacked menu--"
"Stop son, please stop."
"What father?"
"I have confirmed that you are talking about a restaurant, I looked up Jose Ralat, he's the Taco Editor at Texas Monthly, who coincidentally shows up on Netflix's Taco Chronicles which in Season 3 Episode highlights... El Pastor Es Mi Señor."
"Yes! That's the--"
"Yea, that'll be 3 Ave Maria's and 3 Credos and then get the heck outta here.
Pro tip: Get there early, they often run out especially after being featured on Netflix. Truly some of the best...
Read moreI'm Hispanic lived and worked in South Texas for most of my life. I was station in San Diego Ca. while I was in the Navy. I have eaten al pastor street tacos from Rio Grande Valley of South Tx to California. So, when say this place is bad, it is bad. I went there just by chance and regret it. I eat street tacos all the time and pastor is always my go to tacos. This place was a HUGE disappointment. Especially for being a Mexican taco place. The word, "Pinche tacos chingones." Over cooking areas is half right. "Pinche" means stingy and that should have my first clue of my bad choice to visit. I don't know if they serve big tacos. Because my eye was on the trompo of al pastor. My order of 6 tacos barely had any meat to even cover half of 1 small tortilla, much less for 2 tortillas that you get for street tacos. They cut the meat super thin, no flavor and dry. Salsa wasn't that good either. I was going to mention it but you know what happens when you return food. I really regret not checking the reviews first. The 1 stars given are not false statements. My 1 star was only because zero stars isn't an option. I well never return or even recommend this place. I found out from reading reviews now, that they were featured on Netflix. Why? Did the owner pay for the interview? Stick to your regular places for street tacos. Because this place should be ashamed of putting out food like that with a Mexican family background. Spend your money somewhere else. A place where you know that they serve really good food. Luckily San Antonio has a lot of great spots. I had to go to one just afterwards. Because my al pastor craving was not even partly satisfied...

Two orders of 6 mini tacos was $24 and $3 can soda. Pre Tip at the register with CC. The amount of food we got for the price was very good.
I typically don’t get Al Pastor tacos because when I do they come heavy seasoned with ground up chiles 🌶 and I get terrible heartburn. This one came out clean with no 🌶 and also not really a lot of anything but cheese. That’s really all I tasted. I did get a little poblano flavor since it’s cut up into squares and mixed in but as for the meat, ehh 🤷🏽♂️. This brings me 180 degrees from grossly over seasoned to under seasoned. The food was ok, place is very clean, very crowded and extremely limited seating. If you order to go I hope your close by so they are still hot when eat, they get kinda nasty when cold and greasy. We dined in and stood at the high top tables available. We got our food in a reasonable time but my sister and husband got theirs about 20-25 mins after we did and we got lager plates. She only ordered 3 tacos. When she got it the order was wrong. While we waited for her food we watched all of the to go orders get pushed out the door and when she asked about her plate 10mins after I got mine they said it’s being made right now. She finally got it after another 10mins.
I give most places 3 attempts to get a better feel for service and food so I’ll be back a couple more times just make sure I’m not being unfair due to one...
