Wow wow wow.. This was the best barbacoa I have ever had in my life!! I can see why people line up here! My coworker actually told me about this place and we came here after our nightshift. I was surprised this place opens at 530am... So early! But you have to come early or they'll sell out. There were already other people coming in as well. You can buy the barbacoa in two different ways so I got one pound of each. I also got some big red to go with it (apparently a must), corn tortillas, pico de gallo, and hot sauce. The barbacoa literally melts in your mouth!!! I ate almost all of the two pounds myself lol. I also love that this place is family owned. The girl at the counter was so nice :)

This is one of San Antonio's longest running Molinos that has been serving up some of the best tasting Barbacoa, Chicharonnes, Tamales and Tortillas! Me and my family have been visiting this place for many years. I also visited on many occasions when i was a kid and i have always remembered the great smells and food sold there. Now i am older, have a family of my own and we enjoy all the delicious flavors that are made here. All the years have made La Monita an excellent place to buy good quality Hispanic food items. I recommend this restaurant to everyone!

I just bought 20 dozen tamales, and I couldn't be happier with my experience! The staff was incredibly friendly and efficient, making the whole process quick and easy. They helped me pick out the best varieties and had everything ready in no time. The tamales themselves are absolutely delicious — you can tell they’re made with love and care. I’ll definitely be coming back for more! Highly recommend this place for anyone craving authentic, homemade tamales with great service to match.

I have visited this place twice, first time great experience tamales were awesome. Went there today bough dozen they were great so I went back in and got a second dozen and noticed they were closing for the day. Didn’t get far got a sour smell in car check the tamales and the smiled bad went back and boy I won’t be going back I explain to you who I believe was the owners that the first dozen I bought was great, but the second may have been a little past, that triggered some kind of defense mechanism on them to where it actually was a shouting match outside over a dozen of tamales Like I said, the first two dozen I bought and the first one I bought that day were good. The third one was bad owners of businesses should be able to take good and bad criticism and work on that not attack their customers on a personal basis, which is what this business owner did .

I’ve have also noticed that the business owners don’t bother to take the time to respond to the customer or even acknowledge the customer’s response to their business.

As a retired general manager of a local business these owners need some customer service education.

Like I stated in the beginning the food was not the problem it was GREAT tasting but the owners were something else.

I I’ve heard this place has been around for many decades, the original owner must be gone cuz these people that took over have no...

I went yesterday Sunday 2-23-25 a got all meat Barbacoa she came back a gave me all fat so gross! Then I Decided to getTamales 🫔 Shouldve known better after looking at the Barbacoa! omg they were the Worst!! They were OLD THE MASA looked like they just warmed them up from the Christmas holidays what they had left. I’ve never been so disappointed in my life like I was yesterday waste of $ And they gave you old masa too! that’s why they say no refunds because they make it ahead of time and leave it frozen for you when you come in they warm it up! This place has gotten lazy with their food, With so many workers, I don’t see how! But the owner is the one that does the cooking and I believe he’s already overwhelmed with all the stress that comes with it! That’s not right, making the food days or months prior instead of the night before! I will not be...

I saw them on one of the local news channels during the week. The lines were long inside, parking was a wait but the service inside was great. The barbacoa all meat is very greasy (purchased 1/2 pound), tamales have a good masa flavor but the pork in them are pale in color/chunks that the masa breaks/crumbles masa is too thin for the chunks (1/2 dozen), the whole beans are bland (pint), their menudo (pint) is good. I'm glad I bought half pound to try only. I prefer La Grande tortilleria or Culebra Meat Market for their barbacoa/tamales plus those have special deals. Overall, not all that great like the owners claimed on TV. This is my opinion and you are welcomed to go try them...
