Mattenga’s Pizzeria MILITARY DR. (near SeaWorld) — Restaurant in San Antonio

We were excited to try this family owned and operated pizzeria. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed.

Where do I start lol

Staff: The 2 ladies there literally looked like they hated working there. An older lady rushed the ordering process and they had a look on their faces like they couldn't wait to clock out LOL It was Memorial Day and customer service was definitely lacking! Maybe a lack of motivation? I don't know... But that should've given me a clue how our dining experience was going to play out.

When the young lady brought our pizza and plates, they brought 3 plates for a party of 4. Okay so what is the 4th person supposed to eat on? Hmm lol So I went to the counter and said, We are a party of 4 and you gave us 3 plates. She said, "well how many plates do you need?" LOL BIG SIGH

Note: There was only another party of 2 in the restaurant. There's no reason why employees can't pay attention to detail.

Food: We ordered a party size cheese pizza. There were more bubbles in the pizza than anything. Barely any sauce or cheese. Or should I say, the ratio was way off.

Dining area: The restaurant itself was not clean. There were 3 other tables that had trash on it, food and debris on the floor. Again, when we were there, there was only another party of 2. We picked a table that was the "least" dirty and cleaned the table and chairs ourselves.

Overall, it wasn't a good experience. Would not recommend. But try it...

I have been going to this restaurant with my wife for as long as I can remember, for the numerous tantalizing options paired with the serene atmosphere throughout truly embodies the utter spectacle of an admirable pizzeria, drawing me back time and time again to yet again immerse myself in the revolutionary experience presented by this Mattenga’s location. Another aspect of this exceptional spot that I cannot emphasize enough is the undeniably superior service. The employees(even the teenagers) show immense professionalism, maturity, and respect, always providing relentless service and boosting the energy of the entire restaurant. And when I thought it couldn’t possibly achieve greater heights, my recent visit was enhanced more than ever due to the customer service brought to me on a silver platter(quite literally) The waitress named Naliah showed nothing but kindness and warmth during my meal, and her continuous attentiveness and enthusiasm introduced an entirely new dimension to my time with my pizza and wife. People like her truly put into perspective how tremendously a positive presence can alter an experience in a restaurant, and this occurrence has undoubtedly increased my appreciation for this pizzeria and further cemented it as my go-to place for a meal and...

I recently visited Mattenga's Pizza and ordered the cheesy garlic bread and sweet and spicy wings. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory.

Cheesy Garlic Bread: When ordering cheesy garlic bread, one expects a balanced flavor profile that complements the cheese with a hint of garlic. However, the amount of garlic used was overwhelming, to the point where it was almost nauseating. The excessive garlic completely overpowered the dish, rendering it inedible. I couldn't finish even the first bite as it killed my taste buds.

Sweet and Spicy Wings: Hoping for a better experience with the wings, I was sorely disappointed. The wings were undercooked and cold in the middle, suggesting insufficient cooking time. Given the larger size of these Texas-style wings, it’s crucial they are cooked thoroughly to ensure safety and flavor.

In the past, I have ordered pizza from this establishment during lunch hours when only two staff members were working, and the pizza was quite good. However, today's experience was a stark contrast, with the food quality being significantly subpar.
