Rios Barbacoa — Restaurant in San Antonio

I decided to try Rios on Huebner based off of their good reviews. Unfortunately I purchased more than just Barbacoa otherwise I would have left a better review. The Barbacoa was pretty good and I’ll probably keep coming here when I ONLY need Barbacoa. The problem that I had with this place was with their offerings of MENUDO and BORRACHO BEANS. Both of those items in all honesty seemed to come from a can rather than made from scratch. The beans were canned beans with chopped onions tomato and chiles thrown on top , the onions and tomatoes and Chiles weren’t even sautéed they were just chopped and floating on top , no bacon or chicharrones anywhere in the beans. The Menudo again had the look feel and taste of the Jaunitas menudo in a can , on top of that my serving had maybe about 5 pieces of menudo meat and no exaggeration about a cup and a half of hominy . I recently tried Rios Barbacoa a few weeks ago and it was delicious! The meat wasn’t too greasy and the (homemade)salsa had just enough of a kick to it without distracting from the meat itself. The owner was helping his staff serve customers and mingling with everyone to make sure we were all happy with the food and service. At the owner’s suggestion, I added some fresh avocado and pico de gallo to my barbacoa taco and it was amazing! The only thing better than the actual barbacoa is the customer service! There are a few tables for customers who wish to sit and enjoy their food (which we did). Due to the hanging family photos, specially selected art pieces (and even some made) by the owner, free coffee, and background music, the restaurant has a wonderful ambiance; makes you feel like you are visiting a loved one’s home while enjoying some homemade cooking make with love. It was a great morning and business was crazy and I come back because I was nervous at all the service and I hear a customer and the owner going back and forth and escalating voices it could have been prevented on both sides but I felt a little scared because the man had his daughter and if that was me with my child I would have been extra mad for the almost unthoughtful and on a Sunday I grabbed my stuff and I rushed to get out a bit scared so many different scenarios played in my mind the worst one was gun violence I left the establishment saying God bless everyone and Get out Devil you're a liar ! Both should have been grown up and professional and for the child sake and the safety of all the customers in the market God bless you and I love this place first time anything like this I've never seen here always a peaceful place and smiles and Love this morning was just not a good day for a reason ??
