A friend of mine couldn't stop raving about The Baked Bird, and after hearing about its journey from a food truck to a brick-and-mortar restaurant, I knew I had to check it out. So, on a Saturday morning around 10:45 am, I made my way to this gem, nestled in a bustling shopping center. Finding the place was a breeze—thanks to its bright, eye-catching signage—and while parking was a bit tight (blame the crowd, not the restaurant!), I managed to snag a spot.
Upon arrival, I noticed the outdoor seating area complete with tables and umbrellas, perfect for a sunny San Antonio day. Inside, the vibe was cozy and lively, with the unmistakable smell of breakfast food wafting through the air. And can we talk about the tile at the entrance? It says, "Hey Flockers!"—how fun is that? The walls are adorned with cool art, which really gives the place personality. Even the restrooms had hilarious door art—definitely a touch of humor you don’t often find!
The line to order was a bit long, but the staff was moving quickly, and it wasn’t a big deal. While waiting, I took a peek at the baked goods in the display case. Cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes, and pop tarts were calling my name, so naturally, my friend and I decided to try both the cinnamon roll and coffee cake. And wow, were we glad we did. The coffee cake was especially divine—soft, moist, and a little bit decadent.
After paying and getting my coffee, water, and cutlery, I went back to our table and patiently waited for the main event. The breakfast didn’t arrive super fast, but I didn’t mind—it was clear they were busy working out the kinks of being a new establishment. In the meantime, we chatted with other patrons who were equally thrilled about their meals.
When the food finally arrived, it was absolutely worth the wait. My friend had the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage, while I went for the breakfast tray, which included eggs over easy, thick-cut bacon, crispy potatoes, and a biscuit. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were spot on. I have to say, this was one of those breakfasts you savor with each bite.
Despite the constant stream of customers, we never felt rushed to finish our meal. It was clear that the team at The Baked Bird values their customers and is creating a welcoming space. All in all, I will definitely be back—and I’d recommend anyone in the area give it a try. The wait may be long, but trust me, it’s worth...
Read moreCute place with fun atmosphere. The food: everything tasted really good, and was made fresh! I had a vegetarian meal and the portion of avocado was generous and tasted really great. The person I was with had a dish with chorizo and they mentioned that the serving of chorizo was very small for the cost of the food but the dish did taste good. I also got an iced latte which was $7 and a relatively small portion, but it does taste very good. Price: I don't eat out as much as some so there was a element of sticker shock compared to pre-inflation times, but the menu has all of the prices listed and you can also view The menu online before you go to see if the prices look appropriate for your breakfast. I understand that this is a small locally owned restaurant and in order to buy quality ingredients and pay employees fairly things have to cost more than they would at McDonald's, so I didn't take any stars off but I do think it's important to look at the menu and consider the cost overall for the meal and you keep in mind that even though this is a pretty casual place you're going to pay what you would for a restaurant like magnolia pancake House. Atmosphere: I thought the atmosphere of the restaurant was really fun, there's tons of puns on the menu which is fun to read and the walls are decorated with really unique illustrations of breakfast foods and aliens. Many of the chairs have a concha on the seat which is fun, and overall everything is very colorful and feels eclectic. However in any eclectic restaurant it's important to consider whether or not it feels like it's also clean, and with so many mismatched pieces it does feel more like thrown together thrift store vibes versus more formal sit-down establishment. For instance our table was wobbly and half of the chairs didn't match. I'm not taking any stars off my review for this it's just something to keep in mind, you might not take your prom date here but it's a fun place for people who appreciate the weird. Overall: I would come here again and I might bring my family so that we have something to look at and talk about instead...
Read moreI can’t believe I forgot to review this place my first time here! I’ll start with we LOVE the food and ambience.
First of all, the whole restaurant name and theme is cool, but when you walk inside and see the painted walls, it’s definitely a vibe. They have a pretty spacious sitting area, but I’ll warn you that this place gets FULL. Between their coffees, juices, and BANGIN food, it’s no wonder people want to come here.
There’s really no missing with what you order. I’ve had the breakfast burrito and this time I had (I forgot what it was called) local chorizo with potato pieces, a fried egg on top, and pico de gallo and onions and bell peppers. I also ordered it “dirty”, which means they served it with sausage gravy. They give you a big plate of food, and it’s SO flavorful. The potato’s are like how all restaurants should make their potato’s. I’m usually so disappointed with the potato’s that plates come with, but they’re fire here. My wife got the salmon bagel and it was 🤌. For my son, I got him the pancakes, and they are fantastic. I don’t even know how to explain it, but the texture and flavor of these pancakes are far better than any ihop or dennys. I usually cover my pancakes with syrup, it I kid you not, you can literally eat these without. So good.
We’ve already come back here a couple times, and we intend to keep coming. If you haven’t tried them, it’s a no-brainer. Go as...
