Update: This place will not give you a paper receipt. What does that tell you? What are they trying to hide? Extra charges maybe... Demand a paper receipt and watch what happens. So read on restaurant goers!
Before you jump in your car and head off to Lord's Kitchen, I would highly suggest you finish reading this review or at least look at the pictures I've attached of what you get for $15. Really? One tomato slice and one piece of onion??!! As you can see from my profile, I have reviewed many restaurants. And, I can honestly say today's visit here was the worst experience I have ever had dining out! The owner was very rude from the beginning and it only got worse. I walked in and went to place an order at the front counter. I was met by the owner. I asked him if he had any lunch specials and he handed me a menu and pointed them out. Their specialty is hamburgers so I ordered the burger combo lunch special which comes with fries and a drink. The owner kept asking me what I wanted to drink while I was trying to order so I said to give me a diet Coke. After looking closer at the menu I noticed the lunch special comes with only tea or lemonade. I asked the owner if there was an additional charge for a soda and his response was, "Yes, it's $1 extra. That's why I tell people to look at the menu," Wow! How rude was that!!? I replied "you kept asking me what kind of drink I wanted instead of informing me that the lunch special comes with tea or lemonade." And I'm sure at this point he would not have told me about the $1 extra fee for a soda had I not asked. So read on and you'll know why I'm saying this. I changed my drink order to a tea. After he rang me up he said the total was $14.88. So, not thinking much of it, I paid him a $20 bill and he gave me $5 back and said he would bring me the 12 cents. When I sat down I did the math and the price of the lunch special ($13.50) plus San Antonio sales tax does not equal $14.88. I questioned the owner about this and he said, "I don't know but that's what the machine rang up." I told him "well your machine must be wrong." Can I see my receipt? He was real hesitant to show me the receipt and said "well, I'll just give you the 12 cents plus whatever the difference is." I replied that it's not about the change that's due to me it's about the principle of you charging more than what it should have been. He immediately got defensive. I then requested a copy of my receipt. He refused to give me a copy of my receipt but said I could look at it. I found this to be very deceptive. After he showed me my receipt I noticed a $0.25 charge on there and asked him about it. He looked real embarrassed because I obviously caught him in a possible scam. He kept saying "oh I guess I made a mistake." I told him that if he makes that same "mistake" all day long that's quite a bit of extra money he's making. And then he got real upset and kicked me out of his restaurant. Well, I have one final thing to point out. This guy's been in business a long time and rings up the hamburger lunch special all day long every day. When my bill came out to $14.88, he should have immediately realized that it was wrong if in fact, he made what he referred to as an honest mistake. So all I'm saying is, if you are in the mood for over-priced mediocre hamburgers, extra charges that they don't tell you about, terrible customer service and at a place located in a not so nice neighborhood, then by all means go to Lord's Kitchen. FYI...don't use a credit card here. They will tack on a high credit card usage fee and they won't tell you about...
Read moreI went back and forth about writing this review. I’m fairly new to working on this side of town and area and wanted to try a hamburger for lunch. I have heard about this place for a couple of years and took advantage of the opportunity to have lunch there. I was completely underwhelmed. Pricing was a bit steep and my burger was small and the portion of fries sucked. Was also served on $1 Tree paper plates. I was also charged to use my card. Yes, he does have a sign showing he charges a 4% service charge for Visa. But I would’ve loved for my $16 total to be a little bit more worth my money I could’ve paid at Five Guys for a much bigger quality burger and also not be charged a service fee for my card.
I understand this place may be a traditional family style business but as a patron I have been to several mom and pop eateries with better upkeep, quality and service. The owner did give a very stern/rude like attitude and you could tell it’s who he is. The other reviews saying the owner is rude, I have to honestly say I agree. He gave a crap load of ice on our teas for whatever reason.
I tried it, have had better and I won’t be back. Again, was completely underwhelmed. They could use a lot more work on customer service and friendliness. Lots of other burger places around that aren’t nearly as expensive. My plate wasn’t worth $16.
new post UPDATE*
Not sure what happened to my first review but I came back to give an update. I wish my co-workers would've told me they wanted to try here before they dispatched for lunch there. If you want to pay cash, please don't expect your change until anytime after 11:30am!!! My friends went there at 11 and some paid cash, owner stated he couldn't give them the coins part because his safe wasn't accessible until after 11:30. Okay fine, they went ahead and ordered hoping the owner would be kind enough to bring them change later into the lunch. Nope. Never, he NEVER brought them change and he never mentioned it. Although my friends didn't bother to ask or remind him, it's not their jobs as guest to do so. It's about hospitality and consideration. What business opens for lunch and is limited on to what type of transactions they can take at certain times? It's the principle. Do better, and I'm glad I purposely didn't go back to this place for lunch here. I passed on this place with flying colors. I'm good. Just make sure you have exact change and be prepared to be charged extra on your card. This place is the first that's done this. They just put the offset costs of them using credit card program on the...
Read moreA quaint place off the beaten path that's more than worth the venture.
Pretty simple with a few decorations here and there of old toys, posters, photographs and more. It's not overly crowded but not so bare that it feels cold and empty. There's definitely more than enough room for everyone to be comfortable and have their own space as well as maneuver around comfortably so it's pretty cozy inside whether your with a large or small group. Definitely not meant as a party kind of location but still has an aura of supporting a sensible good time with loved ones. There's indoor and outdoor seating although when we visited the indoor seating was the only thing available since it was too hot outdoors). It's located in a very quiet space so it's pretty serene during the day which makes it nice as a little gather and chat space.
Most burger places I've had were definitely good but this was one of the first places that actually made me take a photo of how I actually cleared the meal as an account of how good the food is. We both got a typical cheeseburger (I believe we had the 1/2lb burger) and a side of fries so it wasn't anything crazy or special, but the flavor and juiciness of the burger paired with the slightly sweet toasted buttered bun and the crispy but light fries were a match made in heaven. It reminded me of the nostalgic taste you'd long after on hot summer days as a kid at cookouts or backyard birthday parties and celebrations; something so simple yet done exceptionally well and sparked immediate joy in me with each bite. Of all the burgers I've had I feel that this is definitely one of the best that I've ever had and left a lasting impression on me to want to go back for more and try the other items on their menu.
Friendly and welcoming, they made us feel comfortable while also making some small talk. They were also very open to feedback and actively wanted to know how the customers felt from their experience and how they enjoyed their meals. Interactions were fairly brief, but they were helpful and remained with open arms to all.
If you're looking for a really good burger or just need a peaceful place to grab a bite, then this is the best...
