⚠️!!!!!!!!!!!CONSUMER WARNING!!!!!!!! ⚠️
The menu is misleading and wrong and MANAGEMENT KNOWS THIS!
I went in here thinking I was paying for what it says on the menu which is and I QUOTE ( " served w/ salad, fries or mashed potatoes, roll or cornbread and choice of side. " )
But it actually should say ( " served w/ salad, fries or mashed potatoes, roll or cornbread. If you don't want the fries or mashed potatoes you can choose a different side. " )
Like it says in the menu I thought I was going to get a salad mashed potatoes roll and choice of side. But that was not the case and my server did not tell me It was not until I asked about our salads if we were going to get them before our food and at that point I found out that I was not getting a salad and I was in shock because it states in the menu that that's what I was going to get and I even said that me and my girl would both take balsamic if not balsamic then ranch. And I went to the manager and asked because I knew that it said on the menu this even though my waitress was trying to tell me different. And the manager told me that yes that is a " TYPO ". I told her ( " that if I would have known that I would have not ordered that so I was not getting what I ordered. Even though that's what it states on the menu. " )
So be careful and check what's you're actually getting versus what's on the menu. I included pictures. The management knows that this is a typo and wrong but yet they still hand out this menu which is MISLEADING AND WRONG. BUT YET THEY STILL HAND THIS MENU OUT. BE CAREFUL
And ( If you want to take your food home they CHARGE YOU FOR THE BOXES. )
It seems like they're trying to get every penny.
And also like all the other reviews say this place is not like it used to be I remember this place It was so much better. The new management and new owners are not leaving up to what it used to be and that is very disappointing after all these years.
The onion rings are definitely not what they used to be not even close I suggest you order a half order DO NOT WASTE your money on a full order. Don't be surprised if the unrings aren't like they used to be. Any rings I remember had a lot more batter on them and they were a lot more sturdier and thick. The new ones are less badder and more flimsy and just not as good.
And I have to say the portions were extremely big and good. And the overall food was at 3. Out of 5.
I took my girl here for her first time and it is very disappointing that this will be her last time.
I GREW UP WITH THIS PLACE AND THIS PLACE HAS CHANGED NOT FOR THE BETTER AND IT IS DEFINITELY NOT LIKE...

This place was posted about in a SA restaurant Facebook page. I commented my absolute horror experience with finding a huge rusted safety pin that was open inside of the browned salad they brought to my table. The manager and waitress just stood there like dummies and stared at me until I dropped the plate on their counter, gathered up my family and left. Then this weird girl named Gaby started commenting under everyone's negative comments about their bad experiences at this restaurant saying "give us another shot! Come see us". She started getting weirdly aggressive under my post and even started bringing up my child. She also said "next meal on me" implying she works there and she is best friends with the new owner, Angela. Not only was the food and service absolutely atrocious, THIS is the people they have working for them and/or promoting their business? This just solidified my and many other people's choices in to never giving them our business again. I wouldn't want to eat somewhere with those type of people working there and handling food thinking this is how you promote a dying business. Also, calling someone ghetto for a celebrity crush is so weird and uncalled for. Especially when the restaurant you're heavily trying to promote is located on the inner Northwest side of San Antonio where the local population is mostly Hispanic and people of color. Thanks Gaby! You just lost your bestie a lot of new potential customers.

Read moreColor me IMPRESSED! I can absolutely see why this place has been open since 1938. When I say everything is made from scratch, I mean everything! In a world full of frozen, prepackaged food that lacks personality, this spot is what diners should be.
We started with the fried mushrooms and onion rings, both were fresh, not frozen, and the batter was light and crispy. The homemade dipping sauces were a great simple yet savory combination. We also had the chicken fried steak and the open-faced roast beef sandwich, each served with homemade mashed potatoes. The flavor was insane. Total comfort food heaven.
What really made the experience stand out, though, was the service. Our server, Jorge, was incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better, Angela, the general manager, came by to personally swap out our rolls for a batch that had just come out of the oven, talk about above and beyond!
If you’re looking for that great old school diner vibe with homemade comfort food, this place will not disappoint. It’s give It’s a rare gem that doesn’t cut corners. We’ll...
