El Maizal Tortillería — Restaurant in San Antonio

I've been talking about this place and bragging about the delicious cafe de olla, menudo, pozole and barbacoa with my family. Although we live in Helotes and had to drive all the way over here we came to the surprise that they couldn't split our checks since we were a party of 13 and need it 4 separate checks. When we asked why they said it's hard when they are busy which it wasn't the case, the only had 2 small tables. Then we offered to order at the register and pay upfront so they just had to bring our food out and they said that was too confusing. So we left and ate across the street at The Original Donut Shop. They didn't make a fuss about the checks, service was great and food was just as good. Sad the experience was not what I expected and they won't try the place I spoke very highly about. Y'all should reconsider the flexibility and improve your customer service. It's a shame service doesn't match to the quality...

My fiancé and I recently dined at El Maizal. Truth be told we were on the hunt to find the best food for our families for the day after wedding brunch, this place truly exceeded our wildest expectations. From the warm welcome to the attentive service, the staff made me feel like a cherished guest, especially Sofia, she was amazing! The food was extraordinary, Im a native Texan and this place had me reminiscing of the day with my grandma in her kitchen, every bite was so delicious especially the Barbacoa, BEST IN SA! This restaurant didn’t just serve a meal, it created a memorable experience with exceptional food and heartfelt hospitality, and the Menudo is just like my Grandma and now mother makes. 🥲 I can’t recommend it enough. I ordered a green posole and it lacked so much flavor.. the server asked how was everything and she could tell by my expression it was not good. I set the bowl to the side because I had only tasted it and didn't like it. I then ordered 2 tacos, 1 chicharron w/beans and 1 carnitas. This 2 tacos were delicious. When I went to pay I noticed I was charged for the posole. The server did take it back when I ordered the tacos so I assumed it was going to be removed from my ticket so this was a little disappointing.
