Jose's Mexican Food — Restaurant in San Bernardino

Overall an okay experience. Been here a couple of times before putting this review.

Introduction- This is a Mexican restaurant. But, to me they serve limited menus compared to nearby Mexican restaurants. This is an average Mexican restaurant for me.

Quality & experience- The food quality is of course good, but the taste of the dishes are so & so. Menu has Spanish/ Mexican names. If you are new to Mexican foods & don't know about the dishes or have a specific desire for a dish or taste, take the staff's help. They'll explain about the food. If you want to try out new off the menu food, sorry, they don't have anything to surprise you! Service is okay okay and can be improved. The place is clean & tidy. Have separate restrooms for men & ladies and they are very clean. Have plenty of sittings both inside & outside patio.

Menu & price- They have an average amount of menu. Menu has Spanish/ Mexican names. So, if you are not familiar then, you won't be able to understand the food, how it is prepared, what is/are in the dish. Take suggestions & help before ordering. Most of the food items are enough for a single person. If you have a big appetite, then 1 order is not enough. However, their serving portion is more than other Mexican restaurants. The best part is, they have free tortilla chips (crunchy flower chips) and a few different kinds of Salsas (Mexican sauce/ chutney). The item prices are mid high as the portion of the foods are more. To me $$ is in the mid price range.

Business hours & location- Their regular business hours are from 9am to 9pm. Saturdays & Sundays are usually busiest. But I suggest no matter which day, better going earlier/ daytime, as the location is in a quiet area of SanBernardino with homeless & questionable people in later hours. I won't be there after 5pm! Located close to the freeway. Also closed by homeless people's living area! It has a nice view. Has a lot of free parking & is wheelchair accessible.

I was very disappointed with this place my visit today was mind-blowing. One of our orders was totally wrong. The quality of the second order I wish they would have gotten it wrong but it wasn't as well as it should have been. I'm asking if they have really hot salsa the ladies giving me a different answer. Her answer was we have salsa and chips over there. So I go and I look on the side I don't see any salsa and chips so ignore it. We're sitting down waiting for our meal to arrive. About 10 minutes later a lady walks to the table with five bags of chips in about 6 cups of salsa. One minute later she walks over and brings our food. I've always been to a restaurant where they brought you the salsa and chips immediately as you sat down. I'm not sure if it was the staff that was just working there today or is it always like that. But I'll tell you this it'll be a long time before I come back here again. There's another place that I know of and I'm not going to advertise them on this website but they have three locations and when you go over there first thing they do is they come and they bring you salsa and chips and they ask you can we get you anything to drink a minute or so later they bring you something to drink. I'm not sure if I'm comparing apples oranges but I can tell you these are two totally different Mexican restaurants and I love Mexican food that has very hot salsa very spicy. These little cups of salsa they brought me today it was a joke how you going to eat your salsa and chips inside of a little tiny cup. They could at least brought her some bigger bowl of salsa and a basket or bowl of chips. I say this place terrible. Chances on me coming back slimmed and none. We catered an event for March 14th. We have never catered before and being conscious of the sanitation concerns during that time (and gatherings less than 50 people) we went with a reputable "A" rated establishment rather than a neighborhood street vendor. I have nothing but praise for Jose's restaurant. Beginning with ordering the food, we went in person to see the sizes of containers and talk about changes in menu items. The counter person was so helpful and accommodating to our requests. Wanting to order chicken fajitas with chicken on the side for our vegetarian guests was just one of our requests and was met with a positive "absolutely we can do that". The day of the event, we showed up about 15 minutes early, thinking the food was probably already boxed up and ready to go. However, they were putting it all together and that shows a commitment to serving fresh food. We could not have been happier, nor our guests who praised the food. Every detail to assure proper identification of each container, to assure transportation without misshap to even the type of sturdy black plastic ware was impressive and much appreciated. There were ample condiments and even after dinner mints. Because quite a few people cancelled due to illness concerns, it turned out we have plenty of food left over and frozen for future meals. A huge thank you to Jose's for making the memories of our party so wonderful.
