The whole experience dining in Amami Sushi Bistro was so horrible I wish I could give them negative stars. We arrived around 7:10 pm on Wednesday and there were people waiting to be seated. We asked how long it will take them to get us seated for party of 2 and the answer was about 40 min. We told hostess that we are ok seating on the bar if it speeds the process and she informed us it will take about 20 min to wait. While we were waiting somehow people who came after us were seated before us. The first couple was seated prior to us was because they are apparently regular customers and all other customers apparently had “reservation.” We were the last ones who were seated after 1 hour and 40 minutes wait. We ordered appetizers and the main course, however, somehow the main course came before the appetizers. Also, the meat they served was undercooked and raw. The service was very slow, and we experienced avoidance. The food was ok, nothing special, the only dish I liked was the octopus. The same hostess who got us seated after 1 hour and 40 minutes wait was serving our food. She offered the ice cream on the house for their poor services, but I refused to take it. I felt quilty for taking my disabled combat veteran husband for taking him there and putting him through this horrible experience. He has a bad leg from the war, and it was very hard for him to wait outside standing for 1 hours and 40 minutes. Also, he was the one who was served with raw undercooked meat. Normally, I would tip 20% for services but this time I left 25 cents. My husband said it was...
Read moreImpressive selection for a taste that tantalizes your palette. I'm not one for going out during covid times, so I wanted to check a high rated, intimately enclosed restaurant and to my surprise was their wind system to minimize the spread of covid. I was not expecting fans to be from the back of the restaurant to blow in a direction that was out of the restaurant, which gave an extra sense of security and comfort, like the staff cared about the safety of their crew and the safety of the patrons.
I went for a minimal slice of flavor, their signature Amami Roll with a Kirin to pair. The flavor was an enjoyable ensemble from the king crab meat to the avocado to the eel, topped with fish eggs, and to my delight was greeted with a pairing plate that makes me embarrassed that i did not show off their culinary skills.
Even with leaving with such a small (but filling) meal, I was kindly offered more without being pushed to a sale, in a way where my existence as a patron was satisfied to my liking. Such kind generosity should be honored and thanked rather than exploited as many corporate establishments tend to create. I was very thankful for such a flavorful meal and will...
Read moreGreat food! Just try to get there before the rush. Or you will be waiting a long time. They do have a bar of you want to eat quick. Tip: make a reservation the day before. We did. It was our anniversary so the waitress was friendly, suggested some dishes and even comped us a drink and green tea ice cream! ;)
Parking: the lot is tiny! And it is shared, with a spot or two assigned to other establishments. There was some street parking.
Food: very fresh fish. Ambiance: not too noisy even though the restaurant was full. Decor was nice. Although the TV behind the sushi bar has a miniature boat that blocked the bottom center of the TV, which was probably annoying some customers watching the warriors-clippers game from know the score of the clippers. Service: just a tiny bit slow. But very friendly and attentive. And they're not trying to rush you out. Plus, it is a full house.
Our bill was just under $200 before tip for 2 sushi/sashimi combos, 2 toros, uni and a $30 fish that gets fried after. Plus a bottle of...
