The best donuts. Period. Light, fluffy, sweet and not heavy on the tongue or in the stomach. If I lived in the area I woukd come here often. I live an hour away. Every single time I roll through the city, I make an extra stop off the highway and get the cinnamon roll, a milk and an orange juice. Then I hop back on the highway and indulge in my sweet delights.
Oh you don't know? Fresh squeezed orange juice. I have no idea how they are able to always have sweet oranges.
Here's some cautions for customers. One time I had a donut. A bee stinger was in the donut. It was stuck in the roof of my mouth for ten minutes. Fortunately, I had tweezers in the car and was able to pry it out! I had to take an ibuprofen because the roof of my mouth was tender and swollen. Not even exaggerating! Actually quite annoyed with the flashbacks.
On a recent visit, there were two bees flying in the donut hub. I mentioned this to the employee, I think the owner. Her response, "Shrugged shoulders and that bees were common." I'm confused. Don't people have fatal experiences with bees? Unless you have epinephrine near the donuts, this lackadaisical response concerns me. No signage for bee warning. No closed donut case for bee prevention. Interestingly, peculiar.
And I will likely continue to come here because I'm impressed that they make the simple donut choices great again.
Located East of the El Camino Real exit and a must quick pitstop if you are on the 5 freeway. Easy on, easy off. Don't like donuts? Purchase a healthy...
Read moreComing from San Diego I frequent this exit for my gas needs because I can get in and out extremely quickly, but when the pumps are slow as snails I walk over here and grab some breakfast and when I'm in a good mood I'll get some for my co-workers. I get a lot of verbal complaints about how I'm "the worst", but I secretly watch them sneak away with the treats smiling, so I can't be that bad, or maybe their donuts are good enough to make people hate good men.
If only they had a drive thru and if only they still sold their sandwiches, pancakes and breakfasts.
They are one of my favorite donut shops, but it's hard to call them coffee & tea competitive. Like most buildings in San Clemente, it's a little on the old side with little renovation. They have a stand alone building and parking lot which is great. I'm a fan of their cinnamon twists? I've heard they sometimes will do special requests (blueberry bear claw), but this is rumor. The owners are incredibly nice. I usually get half my dozen with what I like and the rest I go with what they show as popular and I've never had a box go unfinished at my office, so that's a notch for them. It's a small place and perhaps a better location in a busier, newer city would serve them well enough to diversify, but for now it's one of the best...
Read moreAn experience of the rarest kind! Somehow, we ended up driving around looking for a place to have breakfast and this quaint little place just happened to catch our eye. Right on the main drag in San Clemente California, Surfin Donuts Coffee shop was the perfect blend of good solid food and a Southern CA experience! Friendly staff and fresh, made daily pastries and coffees started us off. Seeking shade and a place to sit down to enjoy our food, we ended up outside on the back patio. I decided to take a Pic of my donut and coffee when I noticed "Her", the most gorgeous, old growth tree I've ever seen. She has grown into an almost hand shaped haven of cool, green, peaceful leaves and branches. We sat inside her radiant aura and absorbed the beauty for just a few minutes but it reset our burnt out attitudes and our tired smiles. We left feeling satisfied and lighter with smiles and a positive outlook for the day. That feeling of peace and joy has stayed with me all day. What a gift! This place is more about the whole experience and it's definitely worth the visit! And should you go to check out the donuts,, take the time to go out back check out the tree before you leave! Tell her Kimberly sent you! She will...
