Long post alert ❗❗ Let me start off by saying service makes food taste better always.
I came in this evening on 07Dec23 at 6pm and was immediately greeted by 2 or 3 different people. The place was empty with a group right ahead of me ordering as I walked in. Lots of TVs with sports. Lots of big tables and long tables they'll even push some together if you have a big enough crowd.
I asked the cashier what was the best way to try everything on the menu (meat wise) and she happily answered sampler #1 and explained what came with it.
I didn't even bother looking at the price and ordered my sides and was asked if I wanted sauce on the side or smothered in top. Thank you for asking that.
I paid for my order which was 44.80$ with a drink plus tip of 5$ came out to 50$ for a sampler that includes two ribs, 3 pieces of brisket, one chicken breast with a wing attached and pulled pork with a side of seasoned yellow rice and BBQ beans and Texas toast. You could split it with someone. I didn't.
Got my drink at the drink station where metal cutlery is available along with plastic straws, salt and pepper but no napkins(they are provided on the plate)
Went to the restroom which was very clean and routinely well kept. Even the sink had a spout in the right place to the drain (bonus points) ever wash your hands somewhere and hit the back wall of the sink because the spout is too short... Yea think about that one.
Came out and my food was ready! Awesome, wasn't expecting it that quick. The plate was enormous. Both my sides were in two cups with all the various meats placed around with sauce on top. Even the plate was shaped like a pig.
Let's dig in. I am partial to smoked meats because I smoke them myself but have always wanted to try this place since I live so close.
Texas toast is crunchy not soggy. Fountain drink is great lots of variety.
Brisket was so soft you can cut with a fork not much smoke flavoring but over all very good bite and seasoning the sauce adds a good bit of depth as well.
Pulled pork was soft almost mushy but NOT DRY not much smoke flavor either, wish there was more sauce but you can always ask for more because the staff is so attentive about how the food is and if anything else is needed.
Ribs were soft not fall off the bone but enjoyable. Relatively small for what you pay for but this came on the platter and not individually as another main meal so I'll assume there are bigger pieces around.
Chicken was average. Nice coloring on the outside but not much flavor on the inside. It's hard to make chicken taste good smoked unless you are brining everything and that's a lot of work. Still edible but on the dryer side. This was the only thing I did not finish or take home.
Sides Yellow rice great BBQ pinto beans were great I mixed the rice and pulled pork together that was a good mixture.
All in all a great meal for the price. There's a lot that goes into the smoking meat and I left feeling satisfied and ultimately full. I will be back to try more when I don't feel like sitting by the fire for 18+ hours.
I would add if you are expecting great smokey flavor then lower your expectations like I did because San Diego probably can't handle the smoke. Pretty sure this place is using cherry wood but I could be wrong so it's going to be light but flavorful enough to enjoy.
I enjoyed this place over smoking j's (serpentine cider location) and grand ole bbq(North Park) the pulled pork at both of those places are dryer than the...
Read moreI've had over a decade of BBQ Bliss at Abbey's Texas BBQ. It's about time I give this fantastic restaurant the review it deserves.
I've been a loyal fan of Abbey's Texas BBQ in Miramar since 2012. I have watched the evolution of this restaurant happen before my eyes and it's so wonderful how well this place has grown. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with the tantalizing aroma of slow-cooked meats that promises a meal to remember. Followed by that is their warm hospitality. You just know you walked into the right place for some amazing local BBQ and you feel at home.
To jump right in, their BBQ Brisket Wrap is the perfect blend of smoky and savory, while the combo of Brisket, Chicken, and Sausage offers a symphony of flavors that's hard to beat. But let me tell you about the star of the show: the Brisket Burger. Introduced in 2023, this masterpiece is the stuff of BBQ dreams. They grind their own patties from smoked brisket, creating a taste that's not just good, it's freaking unreal. Pair it with their crispy, golden french fries, and you've got yourself a winner.
The sides at Abbey's are no mere afterthoughts. Each dish, from the moist Cornbread to the creamy Potato Salad, the perfectly cooked Rice, hearty Beans, crisp Caesar Salad, and refreshing Coleslaw, complements the main courses beautifully. And their in-house BBQ sauces? The Cali Gold BBQ Sauce alone is worth the visit. Always ask for their sauces on the side and you got yourself an awesome dipping station for your fries with amazing flavor.
As a beer enthusiast, I'm always impressed by their fantastic selection, featuring local brews that are the perfect accompaniment to any meal. For those who prefer something non-alcoholic, their Stubborn Soda Machine offers a delightful variety of unique flavors.
And don't even get me started on their desserts. The banana pudding is a heavenly way to round off the meal, a perfect balance of sweet and creamy. It is to DIE for.
Whether you're looking for a hearty meal for one or planning to share a platter with friends, Abbey's Texas BBQ has you covered. I've even done multiple caterings with them, and they executed all catering events I booked them for with perfection. Their platters are a great way to sample a bit of everything, and trust me, you'll want to try it all.
Abbey's Texas BBQ isn't just a restaurant; it's a culinary experience that keeps me coming back year after year. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out on some of the best BBQ in San Diego. And if you have? Well, you're probably just craving this place again like I was as I was typing...
Read moreAbbey's real texas bbq is a local bbq joint that the community loves here in Mira Mesa in San Diego, CA. I'm a regular here and thought I'd leave a review to share how amazing this place is. Everytime I had a bad experience whether long wait or wrong order they have made up for it and should they care for the customers alot and I thank the owners and staff. They go above and beyond normal restaurants staff help and wanted to thank Kaitlyn and Pamela for kind service providing great experiences. I wanted to recognize, Jess who does an amazing job there and really acts like an owner. Jess is nice lady with amazing curtesy by taking time and checking in with you as you eat and let's you know she and Abbey's appreciates you and ask if everything is good as order and finds ways to help and I appreciate her for acting like an owner and deserves well.
The food is great!!! I go here often and have tried alot but i enjoy the western bbq burger is an impressive tasting and brisket by the pound is mouth watering so good and the wings do not disappoint. The bbq sauce is sweet and tangy I enjoy it it on everything really. They added three new sides the loaded potato, mac'n cheese, and turkey leg 🍗 . I was the first customer to try the loaded baked potato and choose to add meat on top of it and it was so satisfying to eat every piece of it was great and I'd highly recommend it 10/10. I'm a big mac'n cheese critic and this mac n cheese is pretty good but it falls short missing on the natural cheese taste and is kind of sloppy saucy, I'd give it a 4/10. The turkey leg was a big miss and I've had some really good turkey leg before that open up and fall off the bone good but this was not it was hard and could not get it off the bones all around it. Tough skin and no cutting utensils except butter knife makes it a bring your own knife or dont get it, because there's bones everywhere and you won't be able to eat it. The turkey meat was pretty good but I'd give the turkey leg a 1/10. Overall, Abbey's has alot to offer and amazing bbq and is very great experience in just about anything you order and appreciate...
