Please read* IF YOU ARE NOT ASIAN OR WHITE YOU WILL BE RACIALLY PROFILED. I’ll explain.
The waiters tend to leave the bill on the table quickly as a way to “push” you out. That’s not a big deal, but it’s mostly done with Latinos and African Americans - never with Asians or whites. If you continue to and take your time, they will continue to swarm your table in a passive aggressive way. The other day my friend who is African American grabbed the bill and decided to head to the front to pay, and I stayed behind to finish my drink, and that’s when I noticed that the waiters were frantically watching, to the point they send someone to confirm that she was going to the register to pay. They began to speak their native languages, commanding the younger ones to verify again that she was going to pay. Every Asian and white who got up during that time wasn’t questioned. It was absolutely because she was black. I confronted the staff front desk and explained I saw everything. I saw them look to see if she was walking out, ( mind you many other Asian and whites were walking out too and nobody was questioned), I saw the main waitress command the other server to run to the front to confirm she was going to pay, I saw the servers return to report back to the main waitress, and then ironically after saying all that to the front desk staff, the man turned red, looked dazed that I even confronted him (he knew I had caught them), and he simply said I’m sorry. Didn’t even attempt to say it was a mistake, or make some excuse. IM SORRY. As if it’s okay, but since you caught us, I’m sorry. Confirming exactly what I had experienced.
I have always respected other cultures, always understood their differences, but this restaurant needs to fix this. They will speak in their native language to ensure you don’t understand. This is done maliciously and very subtle, and we Americans allow it.
If you’re a servicemember, they can tell and won’t do it to you, because they know the base is a big money maker, but show up as a regular black civilian outside the regular weekly lunch time, and you will be profiled. Wear a fitted ball cap,. Profiled. They don’t want us there. Sadly, I’ve be going there and have observed this over a few months. I review restaurant all the time (check my reviews) and I will report this to the San Diego Chamber of commerce, the Better Business Bureau, and all African American support agencies.
She is a disabled veteran who happens to be African American. Our reviews are always to uplift people, and this one just hurts me to write because it isn’t anything with the food, it’s everything to do with Racism, racial profiling Blacks and Latinos, while providing great service to Asians and whites.
Stop your servers from doing this. The language is a huge issue. It’s done on...
Read more08/26/2023: Came back today to try some of the entrées only served during their dinner menu (Sirloin Steak, Crab Legs, Coconut Shrimp, Raw Oysters, etc). I'm personally not a fan of raw oysters, so I skipped those. But I did order a steak, sampled their Coconut Shrimp, and had a plateful of crab legs. The steak was slightly below average due to the thin cut and lack of seasoning. The shrimp was excellent! The crab legs were served cold (I love them regardless), but I had quite a challenge cracking the shells, even though they were cut. They shells were large and full of crabmeat, but twice the thickness as what I typically see at other restaurants, making them more difficult to break or pry apart. Next time, I'll bring my own kitchen tools like scissors or pliers...something! (LOL!) Overall, the dinner price for these added entrées are worth it! 04/20/2023: Stopped in to sample their lunch menu in consideration for an upcoming reservation for a large group event that would take place on a Friday. Dined at their establishment at the peak of their lunch hour on a Friday to review their wait times, seating accommodations, noise levels, variety of entrées, taste, quantity of food depletion and speed of replenishment. In consideration that a good number of diners were here for a working lunchbreak, the restaurant filled quickly within the first 30 minutes of opening and variety of popular sushi dishes and hot entrees were nearly picked out. Staff were prompt, courteous, and performed their tasks seamlessly in seating patrons, serving refreshments, clearing tables, and refilling the entrée trays. Thank you for...
Read moreI was so excited to visit this place. It smelled so good before we walked in. We should've turned around the minute we walked in. The smell inside was off-putting, but we still decided to stay. We got seated and went to go get our food. Before getting to the food, we noticed the kids playing in the ice cream, and still we decided to try to eat. The first two plates I grabbed were dirty, and yet I still decided to try to get something to eat. As I'm waiting my turn behind the group of young military men playing with the coconut shrimp, a gentleman starts blowing his nose right by the food. My husband and I could not believe what we just saw, and I did make a statement outloud that he was disgusting. I purposely said it out loud so that he could hear me. We decided to just try the sushi instead since no one was by the sushi station... big mistake we took about 3 bites, and that was it. Also witnessed a table across from us with about 6 individuals and watched one of them blow their nose and then began to wipe the table with that same tissue. That was it.. We asked for the check so that we could leave. We paid $73 and didn't even eat. DO NOT GO HERE. Very unsanitary. Upon leaving, I was so disgusted by everything I saw that I threw up walking back to the car and behind my car. I have no one else to blame but myself because we saw the signs the minute we walked in and still decided to give it a try, especially since we drove about 30 minutes to ge there. We ended up going to firehouse subs after our...
