Sotos Mexican Food — Restaurant in San Diego

This place deserves 6 stars. First timer. Pretty convenient location if you are in the area. The first thing you will notice when you walk in is the size. This place is way bigger on the inside than it looks. Very modern decore. Digital menu. They definitely put some love into this place. I got there early, around 9am. It was already getting a lot of business and serving up the full menu to a pretty diverse crowd. No wait though. I saw the high rating and was really hoping they had a decent breakfast burrito. They had a few choices but after confirming with the very sweet cashier that the machaca was flavorful with peppers and onions, I had to go with that. Im a huge fan of *flavorful machaca, as a lot of it is bland and worthless. I also added cheese because I love cheese. So before I get to the burrito, lets start with the chips and salsa. The chips were a little burnt which I like, reminds me they are homemade :). The salsa has nearly a flawless flavor. You will not want to stop eating the salsa. You could eat it by itself. Drink it. Lol. Luckily my burrito came up quick. Which sometimes worries me because I know most good things take time. The burrito was large. You're not gonna find many bigger breakfast burritos. It was a full meal and Im 270lbs. This also made me concerned with the quality as I know quality doesnt always come in the largest packages. The cashier also loaded me up with a bottle of red sauce and a bottle of green. Im normally a red sauce guy so I squirted the red stuff and took my first bit. Ill start by saying the red sauce is not my cup of tea, so Instarted to panic. I tried it again and again but could not get my taste buds to understand the red sauce. So I reluctantly put a squirt of the green sauce on it and took a couple more bites. Immediately I was releived, as I could tell the green sauce was going to do the job the red sauce had failed to do. As I kept eating and getting the full flavor of this geen sauce, I came to realize it was the best green sauce I had ever sampled. This stuff is rediculous. Only had one other green sauce on this level. If they had bottles, I would have bought more than one. Soto's tortillas also blew my mind. Serious 10/10. They might be the best tortillas Ive sampled at any taco shop. Crispy and flavorful. The machaca itself was amazing. Machaca gets over looked and is a very under rated breakfast burrito meat. This Machaca was muy bueno. Bell peppers and onions meted into the shredded beef. When you put the cheese, machaca and eggs in that perfect tortilla and douse it with the green sauce, I'm warning you, your taste buds are gonna have one serious fiesta. What a value. 8$ for a priceless burrito. This place deserves every bit of this review.

I ordered a California burrito and was able to substitute shredded beef instead of carne asada. IT WAS AMAZING. The burrito was huge and easily could have been 2 meals for me, but it was so good I couldn’t stop eating until every bite was gone. I had picked up my burrito to-go on the way to a kids’ party and while the kids enjoyed the usual pizza, the parents eyed my burrito enviously. It had the right amount of everything: guacamole, sour cream, fries, shredded beef, with a bit of bell pepper (usually comes in good shredded beef). I have been thinking about this burrito for days and can’t wait to make my way over to Soto’s again. The salsas and chips are tasty. I was really looking forward to eating here, I called in my order ( the lady was talking about me in Spanish thinking I wouldn’t understand her) our food came out, the ceviche we ordered was very good, our torta wasn’t at all, the meat didn’t taste right, we sent it back and ordered a carne asada torta which was even worse. We couldn’t eat that one at all. We went to speak to the lady and they said that the grill was fine and that maybe I’m just used to burritos or steakhouse steak. I love Mexican food and was raised in a home with authentic Mexican food! Don’t judge the book by it’s cover Sotos! Will definitely not ever come back. 3 different meats all were awful, fruit bar isn’t ready. Out of stock of everything...
