Visiting my son who lives down the street from the Black Cat. Drove by several times and he said he thought of stopping in but never had. One Saturday we decided to walk down and have a drink. Cover charge was $5. Cheap for a cover charge. Drinks were good and prices reasonable. Rey Wolf performed and did not disappoint. Small place but the atmosphere was great. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in San Diego.

The Black Cat is a semi-gothy, 2 pool table dive bar with live music. BEST shot prices in University Ave I swear! Kinda seems small for a bigger group at first but they have big round booths. There wasn't food, but they didn't mind if you brought tacos from the street vendor inside and they were fire!!! Staff was nice and quick with drinks! Seemed like they had cool regulars too.

Cool bar and music venue on Unjversity at the edge of City Heights. There’s usually a pretty good crowd here on weekends. The bar is pretty well-stocked with a variety of liquor and beer, they’ve got two pool tables, and the bands are usually pretty cool! It’s like a step above a dive bar and has some comfy U-booth seating along the eastern wall.

Really cool in-the-cut spot! For those of you who don't know what "in-the-cut" means, it just means, like, not well populated and situated in a location where people probably don't know about it. 2 Bands played that night; saw the last one "The Havnauts" and was really impressed. Small spot, with a little VIP-type, inside, balcony section upstairs for a small group, and anyone can sit up there and see the band just fine. Bartenders were friendly, when they could hear you! Several of the kegs were out for the beer selections; I think that was the only downside. Red and black theme, darker, and very chill vibe. Can't wait...

Ok 1st tome here it smelled like dead people, I let it go. 2nd time I was ignored by bartender Dave i believe , until my date went up and got us drinks. No bigs I guess. But today the same bartender looked at me multiple times, and still didnt ask if I wanted a drink! So I left and as I am heading home lol I even wrote the dudes name so I wouldn't forget. 😌 Lame bar experience tonight but I have heard good things about it and the people there seemed like a good crowd.. if I ever give it another shot, I'll hopefully be able to leave a...

Cheap drinks poured right, located in a former bank building with high, ornate ceilings. Consistently good bands. Friendly staff and owners well versed and entrenched in the local music scene. A dark, inviting neighborhood dive with the perfect mix of seediness, local history and pre-gentrified cool. When the masses catch on and this neighborhood is flooded with North Park spill-over, The Black Cat will undoubtedly remain the heart of everything that is right and good about a quality drinking...
